India’s first official F1-sanctioned sim racing competition is currently underway. Run by Mumbai Falcons, F1 Sim Racing India Open offers Indian fans and budding racers a different, and far more accessible entry point to motorsport. In fact, Mumbai Falcons already has plans in place to bridge the gap between sim and real-world racing, giving the best performing participants the chance to join its driver development programme.

From sim racing to single seaters
Over the years, Mumbai Falcons has fielded teams in several international karting and Formula Regional championships. The team has played a crucial role in the junior careers of prominent drivers, including Kimi Antonelli, Oliver Bearman, Arvid Lindblad and Kush Maini.
Speaking to Autocar India, Mumbai Falcons Racing Limited’s Managing Director Ameet Gadhoke explained that the idea for the F1 Sim Racing India Open stemmed from the team’s experience in single-seater racing. “I’ve seen how important sim racing was for [our drivers] before they went onto the track,” he stated.
The team isn’t treating sim racing as a separate category; instead, it forms a key part of Mumbai Falcons’ driver development pathway. The best performers in the F1 Sim Racing India Open will join the team’s ‘Agla Star’ programme, with the top 1,000 players earning the chance to train with 4-stroke karts. The top 100 from here will then move up to 2-stroke karts, and those who impress the most will then be trained to step up to single-seater racing.
“The idea is to find the Agla Star. We want a guy or girl to come from here and go into single seaters as fast as possible. We’re doing a talent hunt programme, we’re not [just] doing sim racing,” Gadhoke explained. “So for those who actually understand motorsport, but cannot afford it, this is the pathway. The idea is if this person is good, then we take him out of the group, put him in real karts and then go into single seaters.”

Mumbai Falcons has also teamed up with several schools across India for this. As the team explained, the goal with this is “to introduce students to sim racing, motorsport technology and structured talent development opportunities at an early age”. As part of this initiative, partner schools will receive simulator infrastructure, training support and structured learning modules. Gadhoke says he’s targeting partnering with around 1,000 schools across 20 cities in India.
F1 also runs its own global sim racing championship, which often acts as a launchpad for wider opportunities in both sim racing, as well as motorsport in general. Gadhoke shared that Mumbai Falcons is also exploring representing India in this F1 Sim Racing World Championship.
F1 Sim Racing India entry fees, format
Open to both newcomers and experiences players, the F1 Sim Racing India open is divided into two categories – Junior (ages 10-14) and Senior (above 14 years old). Registrations are currently underway, with the F1 Standard package costing Rs 3,499, and the F1 Elite package costing Rs 4,999. While the former simply gives access to competition entry, the more expensive F1 Elite package also includes priority slot for the zonal qualifiers, a 30-minute tutorial, telemetry data, 10 percent discount for online coaching and 10 percent discount on merchandise.
The competition is divided into 10 zones across the country. Phase 1 includes online laps as well as Mumbai Falcons’ school programme. For this, all those who have registered can compete on the F1 25 game through rough Steam, PlayStation Network, Xbox Live or via an EA Play membership.
Participants can set their fastest lap times on one selected circuit within a 60-day window. Ranking is based on lap time, so the faster your lap, the higher your position. Participants can also continue trying to improve their lap times during the 60-day window. The top 5,000 juniors and 5,000 seniors from each zone will then make it to the Zonal stage. The 50 fastest juniors and 50 fastest seniors from each zone qualify for the national finals.
F1 Sim Racing India Open: Finals
The national finals is slated to be held in Mumbai’s NSCI Dome in November 2026. Here, participants will compete in the Playseat Formula Intelligence F1 Edition cockpit, along with the Fanatec ClubSport Racing Wheel F1 system.
The top 30 from each category will progress to the last stage. The junior finalists will then compete across nine races, while the senior finalists will compete across 12 races. The Junior and Senior champion will each win Rs 1 crore.

News18 के अनुसार, अब लाल कुआं और दादरी के बीच कनेक्टिविटी बेहतर करने का लंबे समय से लंबित प्रस्ताव एक कदम और आगे बढ़ गया है; अधिकारियों ने इस रूट पर 12 किलोमीटर लंबे एलिवेटेड रोड कॉरिडोर का प्रस्ताव रखा है, जिससे जाम कम होने और यात्रा का समय काफी कम होने की उम्मीद है।
रिपोर्ट्स के मुताबिक, प्रस्तावित एलिवेटेड रोड GT रोड के उस बड़े रीडेवलपमेंट प्लान का हिस्सा है जिसका मकसद गाजियाबाद और ग्रेटर नोएडा के बीच कनेक्टिविटी को बेहतर बनाना है। सेतु निगम ने इस कॉरिडोर के लिए डिटेल्ड प्रोजेक्ट रिपोर्ट (DPR) और सर्वे का काम पूरा कर लिया है।
करोड़ों की नई परियोजनाओं को मिलेगी मंजूरी
लगभग 650 करोड़ रुपये की लागत वाले इस प्रस्ताव को गाजियाबाद के सांसद अतुल गर्ग ने आगे बढ़ाया था और अब इसे मंजूरी के लिए उत्तर प्रदेश सरकार के पास भेजा गया है। मंजूरी मिलने के बाद, यह एलिवेटेड कॉरिडोर दादरी की ओर जाने वाले वाहनों को कई व्यस्त चौराहों और लोकल ट्रैफिक पॉइंट्स से बचाकर निकलने में मदद करेगा, जिसकी वजह से जाम की समस्या कम होने की उम्मीद है।
फिलहाल अभी, GT रोड पर भारी ट्रैफिक के कारण लाल कुआं और दादरी के बीच सफर में 45 मिनट से लेकर एक घंटे तक का समय लग सकता है। जबकि चौधरी मोड़, न्यू बस स्टैंड और रेलवे क्रॉसिंग के पास जाम की वजह से लोगों को लंबे समय तक रुकना पड़ता है।
ट्रैफिक होगा कम
अधिकारियों का मानना है कि एलिवेटेड रोड से गुजरने वाले ट्रैफिक के लिए एक अलग रास्ता मिलने से सफर का समय घटकर लगभग 15 से 20 मिनट हो सकता है। News18 की रिपोर्ट के मुताबिक, रोजाना सफर करने वालों का कहना है कि यह प्रोजेक्ट दोनों तरफ सफर का समय कम करके उनके रोजाना लगभग एक घंटे बचा सकता है।
प्रस्तावित कॉरिडोर सीधे लाल कुआं से दादरी तक जाएगा और रास्ते में पड़ने वाले बड़े चौराहों से होकर नहीं गुजरेगा। दूर जाने वाला ट्रैफिक एलिवेटेड हिस्से से गुजरेगा, जबकि लोकल गाड़ियां नीचे वाली सड़क का इस्तेमाल करती रहेंगी।
अधिकारियों को उम्मीद है कि लोकल और लंबी दूरी के ट्रैफिक के अलग-अलग होने से आवागमन बेहतर होगा, चार प्रमुख सिग्नलों पर लगने वाला जाम कम होगा और इस रास्ते की सबसे बड़ी समस्या भी दूर होगी। दरअसल, अभी एक ही सड़क पर भारी कमर्शियल वाहन, औद्योगिक क्षेत्र का ट्रैफिक और स्थानीय यात्रियों की आवाजाही होती है, जिससे अक्सर जाम की स्थिति बनती है।
बता दें कि GT रोड उन सबसे व्यस्त सड़क कॉरिडोर में से एक है जो दिल्ली को गाजियाबाद और आस-पास के इलाकों से जोड़ता है। दिल्ली, सीलमपुर, साहिबाबाद, मोहन नगर और घंटा घर से आने वाला ट्रैफिक लाल कुआं की तरफ आता है, जिससे मौजूदा सड़क नेटवर्क पर काफी दबाव पड़ता है।
गौरतलब है कि लाल कुआं पर दिल्ली-मेरठ एक्सप्रेसवे से आने वाली गाड़ियां, अलीगढ़ की ओर जाने वाली गाड़ियां और दादरी व सूरजपुर की ओर जाने वाले भारी इंडस्ट्रियल ट्रैफिक की वजह से जाम की समस्या बढ़ जाती है। News18 की रिपोर्ट के मुताबिक, यहां पहले से मौजूद फ्लाईओवर ने कुछ हद तक राहत जरूर दी है, लेकिन नीचे वाली सड़क पर अभी भी भारी ट्रैफिक रहता है, खासकर दादरी NTPC, कोट और आस-पास के इंडस्ट्रियल इलाकों में जाने वाले ट्रकों की वजह से।
उम्मीद है कि एलिवेटेड रोड से गाजियाबाद, क्रॉसिंग्स रिपब्लिक, ग्रेटर नोएडा वेस्ट और दादरी रोड के बीच कनेक्टिविटी बेहतर होगी। साथ ही, इससे सूरजपुर, कोट और दादरी के इंडस्ट्रियल हब को भी फायदा होगा, क्योंकि माल की ढुलाई आसान हो जाएगी।
अधिकारियों को यह भी उम्मीद है कि यह प्रोजेक्ट गाजियाबाद और ग्रेटर नोएडा के बीच सफर करने वाले लोगों के लिए एक वैकल्पिक रास्ता उपलब्ध कराएगा, जिससे दिल्ली-मेरठ एक्सप्रेसवे की सर्विस लेन पर ट्रैफिक का दबाव होगा।
इस प्रोजेक्ट का असर रियल एस्टेट सेक्टर पर भी पड़ने की उम्मीद है। NCR में पहले भी देखा गया है कि जब किसी इलाके में कनेक्टिविटी और इंफ्रास्ट्रक्चर बेहतर होता है, तो वहां घरों की मांग बढ़ने लगती है। माना जा रहा है कि प्रस्तावित एलिवेटेड रोड का भी ऐसा ही असर देखने को मिल सकता है।
लाल कुआं, जिसे पहले मुख्य रूप से एक ट्रांजिट पॉइंट माना जाता था, धीरे-धीरे एक रिहायशी इलाके के तौर पर उभरा है क्योंकि यह वेव सिटी, क्रॉसिंग्स रिपब्लिक और राज नगर एक्सटेंशन से अच्छी तरह जुड़ा हुआ है।
वहीं, नोएडा में प्रॉपर्टी की कीमतें लगातार बढ़ने के कारण, कई घर खरीदार गाजियाबाद और आस-पास के इलाकों में तुलनात्मक रूप से सस्ते घरों के विकल्प तलाशने लगे हैं।
एलिवेटेड रोड बनने के बाद दादरी, कोट गांव और रोजा-याकूबपुर क्षेत्र जैसे इलाकों की लोकप्रियता बढ़ सकती है, क्योंकि यहां से गाजियाबाद पहुंचना आसान हो जाएगा।
रिपोर्टों से पता चलता है कि इस इलाके में अभी दादरी की तरफ 45 लाख रुपये से कम कीमत वाले 2BHK घरों की मांग है, जबकि लाल कुआं और क्रॉसिंग्स रिपब्लिक में खरीदार 65 लाख रुपये से कम कीमत वाले 2BHK और 3BHK अपार्टमेंट देख रहे हैं।
फिलहाल यह प्रस्ताव उत्तर प्रदेश सरकार की मंजूरी का इंतजार कर रहा है। जैसे ही इसे हरी झंडी मिलेगी, अधिकारी जमीन से जुड़े काम, अतिक्रमण हटाने और बिजली-पानी जैसी सार्वजनिक सुविधाओं (यूटिलिटी) को शिफ्ट करने की प्रक्रिया शुरू करेंगे। आमतौर पर इंफ्रास्ट्रक्चर परियोजनाओं में यही चरण सबसे ज्यादा समय लेते हैं।
News18 की रिपोर्ट के मुताबिक, लाल कुआं से न्यू बस स्टैंड तक के एलिवेटेड सेक्शन की लागत लगभग 650 करोड़ रुपये आंकी गई है, जबकि दादरी की ओर जाने वाले पूरे 12 किलोमीटर के कॉरिडोर को चरणों में विकसित किए जाने की उम्मीद है। अगर मंजूरी और शुरुआती काम योजना के अनुसार आगे बढ़ते हैं, तो अगले साल तक निर्माण कार्य शुरू हो सकता है, जिससे NCR के सबसे व्यस्त कॉरिडोर में से एक पर यात्रा करने वाले लोगों को लंबे समय से जाम की समस्या से राहत मिलेगी।
India completed the nationwide rollout of E20 petrol in April last year, making it the standard grade of petrol sold at fuel stations across the country. E20 contains 20 percent ethanol and 80 percent petrol, replacing the lower ethanol blends that were sold previously.
The transition has raised several questions among vehicle owners about compatibility, fuel efficiency, maintenance, warranties and long-term reliability. We separate the facts from the misconceptions and answer the key questions around E20.
1. What is E20 petrol and why has India switched to it?
E20 is fuel blended with 20 percent ethanol and 80 percent petrol. Ethanol is a biofuel produced from agricultural feedstocks such as sugarcane, maize and surplus food grains. India introduced the Ethanol Blended Petrol (EBP) Programme in 2003 with E5 petrol, and while the blended percentage kept varying for a while, it was eventually increased to E10 before completing the nationwide rollout of E20 in 2025, five years ahead of the planned implementation. According to the government, the programme aims to reduce dependence on imported crude oil, improve energy security, lower emissions and create an additional market for agricultural produce.
2. Can I use E20 fuel in my car or bike?
New petrol cars and two-wheelers sold in India today are compatible with E20 petrol. Under the government’s roadmap, vehicle manufacturers were required to make new petrol models manufactured from April 2023 compatible with E20.
Vehicles manufactured before April 2023 were designed for lower ethanol blends, so compatibility may vary depending on the model and year of manufacturing. However, some brands state that they had E20 material compliance before 2023, for a list click here.
3. How do I know if my car is E20 compatible?
The easiest way is to check your vehicle’s fuel flap or the owner’s manual or contact the manufacturer’s authorised dealership. As part of the government’s E20 roadmap, manufacturers progressively introduced E20-compatible petrol vehicles from 2023 onwards. However, compatibility can vary depending on the model and year of manufacture, so owners should not assume that every petrol vehicle is fully E20-compatible.
4. Can E20 damage older engines or fuel-system components?
Concerns about E20 mainly relate to older vehicles that were not originally designed for higher ethanol blends. While ethanol has not been found to significantly directly affect metal fuel-system components, prolonged exposure to E20 can accelerate wear in some older rubber and plastic parts such as fuel hoses, seals, O-rings, gaskets and certain fuel pipes if they are made from materials that are not ethanol compatible.
Before approving E20, ARAI tested metals, elastomers and plastics commonly used in fuel systems. The study found no significant corrosion of metal components, but certain rubber compounds and plastics used in older vehicles showed greater deterioration than with E10 fuel. These findings prompted manufacturers to use ethanol-compatible materials in newer vehicles. Thus, owners of older vehicles should keep up with regular servicing and follow the manufacturer’s recommended maintenance schedule, increasing the inspection frequency if damage is suspected.
5. Does E20 reduce fuel efficiency?
Yes. E20 fuel generally returns lower fuel efficiency than petrol with a lower ethanol content because ethanol contains less energy than petrol. The exact reduction varies depending on the vehicle, engine and calibration.

ARAI estimates a fuel efficiency drop of 1-6 percent with E20, while some manufacturers put it closer to 7-8 percent. In Autocar India’s real-world testing, both newer E20-compatible cars and older pre-E20 vehicles recorded a measurable drop in mileage when compared with an equivalent E10 blend. Among the newer cars, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire recorded a 3.8 percent drop, while the Hyundai Creta N Line saw a 12.6 percent decline.
Among older BS4-era cars, the Volkswagen Polo GT TSI posted a 5.2 percent drop, while the older Maruti Suzuki Dzire recorded a mileage drop of 12.4 percent.
The results also showed that there is no single figure applicable to every vehicle. Factors such as engine calibration and compression ratio all influence fuel efficiency, meaning some vehicles adapt better to E20 than others.

Yes, but not in a way that most motorists are likely to notice. E20 has a higher-octane rating than regular petrol, which improves resistance to engine knocking and can benefit engines designed to take advantage of higher-octane fuel.
The government says E20 aims to lower emissions by replacing a portion of petrol with domestically produced ethanol which is a renewable fuel. For most motorists, however, the most noticeable effect of switching to E20 is likely to be a small drop in mileage rather than a change in vehicle performance.
7. Is E20’s water contamination issue a real problem?

Ethanol is hygroscopic, meaning it has the capability to absorb moisture. As a result, E20 is more susceptible to water contamination if excess moisture enters the fuel during storage or handling. In severe cases, this can lead to phase separation, where the ethanol and water separate from the petrol, affecting fuel quality.
Some petrol pump operators have raised concerns that existing underground storage tanks, particularly during the monsoon or in coastal areas, could be more prone to moisture ingress, increasing the risk of phase separation. However, the government and the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) says that there is no evidence linking E20 itself to widespread fuel contamination or vehicle failures.
8. Will using E20 affect my vehicle’s warranty?
For most owners, no. Vehicle manufacturers have said that using E20 petrol will not affect the warranty of their vehicles, and valid warranties will continue to be honoured. The government, SIAM and several manufacturers have stated that vehicles continue to be covered under their standard warranty terms when fuelled with E20, for a full list click here. SIAM has also said that OEMs will honour the warranty committed to customers for E20 usage, and that insurance claims will remain unaffected.
9. Why isn’t E20 petrol cheaper than regular petrol?
Although E20 contains 20 percent ethanol, it is not cheaper than regular petrol because ethanol currently costs more to procure and blend than petrol under prevailing market conditions. The cost of ethanol procurement, tax, transportation, blending and distribution offsets any potential saving from replacing a portion of petrol with domestically produced ethanol.
Any savings from lower crude oil imports are realised at the national level rather than by consumers through lower pump prices.
10. Why can’t I still buy E10 or pure petrol?
Because by policy E20 is now India’s standard petrol. Following the nationwide rollout of the Ethanol Blending Programme, oil companies have standardised regular petrol and premium 95-octane petrol to an E20 blend. Maintaining parallel supplies of E10 and E20 would require separate storage, transportation and dispensing infrastructure, making nationwide distribution significantly more complex.
As a result, motorists can no longer choose between E10 and E20 at regular fuel stations. The only exception is 100-octane petrol, such as IndianOil XP100 and HP Power100, which remains effectively ethanol-free because it is a niche fuel sold in limited volumes. For most vehicle owners, however, E20 is now the only petrol available.
11. Is the government planning to increase ethanol blending beyond E20?
Not yet, but the groundwork has begun. While the government has said no decision has been taken to mandate petrol with more than 20 percent ethanol, it has begun preparing the regulatory framework for higher blends.
In May 2026, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) notified fuel quality standards for E22, E25, E27 and E30 petrol, indicating that the government is laying the groundwork for future adoption. It has also proposed recognising E85 and E100 fuels under the Central Motor Vehicles Rules.
Separately, the government has tasked the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) with studying the impact of E25 petrol on existing E10- and E20-compatible vehicles, including its effect on fuel efficiency, durability, emissions and engine performance under long-term use.
However, any move beyond E20 will require extensive testing and consultation with vehicle manufacturers, fuel companies and research agencies to assess engine durability, emissions and fuel-system compatibility before it is introduced.
12. What should owners of older cars do now?
If your vehicle is not certified as E20-compatible, it does not necessarily mean it will experience immediate problems. However, owners should follow the manufacturer’s guidance, keep up with regular servicing and replace worn fuel-system components as required. It would also be prudent to increase the frequency of inspection of your vehicles fuel system to ensure there is no corrosive damage and catch it before it gets acute.
If you own a classic car, an older imported vehicle or a high-performance model designed for lower ethanol blends, using ethanol-free 100-octane petrol may be worth considering.
13. Can I convert my vehicle to run on E20 fuel?
Yes, but official upgrade programmes are currently limited and while a few manufacturers, like Royal Enfield and Maruti Suzuki, had mentioned a plan for these earlier, they don’t have much to say for now. In a recent government press conference that aimed to quell the E20 backlash, Maruti stated that the kits are for R&D purpose only.
Theoretically, it’s possible to replace critical components susceptible to E20 damage with those designed to handle the fuel – especially if your vehicle is still in production – and if you feel the need to, you can go ahead and have parts like fuel lines, fuel pump and gaskets replaced but by your authorised workshops only.
So, should you be worried about E20 petrol?
Not worried, but alert. Modern petrol cars and bikes designed or updated for E20 are engineered to run on the fuel without major issues, and extensive testing by the government, research agencies and manufacturers found no evidence of widespread reliability concerns.That said, E20 is not without trade-offs. Most motorists should expect a small reduction in fuel efficiency.
For owners of older vehicles, it would be wise to pay closer attention to fuel-system maintenance.
