लेवरेज्ड ETF के लिए कोर्स करना जरूरी, दक्षिण कोरिया ने इस कारण बनाया नियम

दक्षिण कोरिया का $4.3 ट्रिलियन का स्टॉक मार्केट बहुत ही अधिक वोलेटाइल हो चुका है। सैमसंग इलेक्ट्रॉनिक्स (Samsung Electronics) और एसके हीनिक्स (SK Hynix) से जुड़े सिंगल-स्टॉक लेवरेज्ड ईटीएफ में निवेश तेजी से घटा है। अगस्त में इनसे करीब $100 करोड़ की निकासी हो चुकी है। ऐसे कठिन समय में मॉक ट्रेडिंग कोर्स निवेशकों के डर को दूर करने का प्रभावी तरीका बनता जा रहा है। बता दें कि दक्षिण कोरिया ने लेवरेज्ड ईटीएफ में रिस्क वाली ट्रेडिंग को कम करने के लिए नियम काफी सख्त कर दिए हैं। सबसे अहम बात ये है कि लेवरेज्ड ईटीएफ खरीदने के लिए यह कोर्स अनिवार्य है। न्यूज एजेंसी ब्लूमबर्ग की रिपोर्ट के मुताबिक यह अनिवार्य नियम 19 अगस्त से लागू है।

क्या है मॉक ट्रेडिंग कोर्स में

अब निवेशकों को लेवरेज्ड ईटीएफ खरीदने से पहले पांच दिन का मॉक ट्रेडिंग कोर्स करना जरूरी होगा और हर दिन कम से कम 1 घंटे वर्चुअल मनी से ट्रेडिंग करनी होगी। इस कोर्स में विंडोज पीसी पर एक प्रोग्राम डाउनलोड करना जरूरी है, जिससे कई रिटेल इंवेस्टर्स इसे काफी झंझट वाला मान रहे हैं। यह ऐप सिर्फ पीसी पर ही डाउनलोड होगा और कोरियन एक्सचेंज का कहना है कि फिलहाल मोबाइल-बेस्ड प्लेटफॉर्म शुरू करने की कोई योजना नहीं है। सरकार का उद्देश्य खुदरा निवेशकों को हाई-रिस्क लेवरेज्ड प्रोडक्ट्स से दूर रखना है, और फिलहाल इन नियमों का असर साफ दिखाई दे रहा है।

क्या है Leveraged ETF की स्थिति

दक्षिण कोरियाई बाजार में लेवरेज्ड ईटीएफ का कुल AUM (एसेट अंडर मैनेजमेंट) जून के पीक $1140 करोड़ से घटकर 27 अगस्त तक करीब $500 करोड़ तक आ गया। सैमसंग इलेक्ट्रॉनिक्स और हीनिक्स जैसे टेक स्टॉक्स में गिरावट ने मार्केट में कोहराम मचा दिया। अब सवाल उठता है कि इनमें इतनी तेज गिरावट क्यों आई तो इसका जवाब ये है कि सरकार के सख्त नियमों के साथ-साथ एआई सेक्टर में अधिक खर्च और उससे कमाई की संभावनाओं को लेकर चिंता ने भी टेक स्टॉक्स पर भी दबाव बनाया।

लेवरेज्ड ईटीएफ की स्थिति तो अब ऐसी है कि उनकी ट्रेडिंग वैल्यू जून के रिकॉर्ड हाई लेवल से सिर्फ 4% रह गई है तो इनमें पहली बार किसी महीने में निवेश से अधिक निकासी के आसार दिखने लगे हैं। इन ईटीएफ में ट्रेडिंग कम होने से वोलैटिलिटी कम हुई है। कोस्पी वोलैटिलिटी गॉज जून के 97 से गिरकर चार महीने के निचले स्तर लगभग 50 पर आ गया। दक्षिण कोरिया का इक्विटी बेंचमार्क इंडेक्स इस साल अभी भी 61% ऊपर है, लेकिन अपने दो महीने पुराने रिकॉर्ड हाई से 25% नीचे है।

ELSS में निवेश के क्या हैं टैक्स बेनेफिट्स

ईएलएसएस म्यूचुअल फंड्स में निवेश पर पुरानी टैक्स रिजीम में इनकम टैक्स एक्ट के सेक्शन 80सी के तहत एक वित्त वर्ष में ₹1.50 लाख तक के निवेश पर डिडक्शन क्लेम कर सकते हैं।

एक साल से अधिक होल्डिंग को रिडीम करने पर यानी लॉन्ग टर्म कैपिटल गेन (LTCG) में से ₹1 लाख से अधिक जितना मुनाफा है, उस पर 10% की दर से तो एक साल से कम वाली होल्डिंग को रिडीम करने पर यानी शॉर्ट टर्म कैपिटल गेन (STCG) पर 20% की दर से टैक्स देना होगा।

ईएलएसएस की यूनिट्स के रिडेम्प्शन पर कोई TDS (टैक्स डिडक्टेड ऐट सोर्स) नहीं है।

टैक्स बेनेफिट्स के अलावा और क्या है खासियतें

ईएलएसएस इकलौता ऐसा म्यूचुअल फंड प्लान हैं, जिसमें टैक्स बेनेफिट्स मिलता है।

एक और खास बात ये है कि सेक्शन 80सी के तहत जिन-जिन विकल्पों में जितने भी निवेश प्लान हैं, उनमें सबसे कम लॉक-इन पीरियड इसी का है जैसे कि पीपीएफ में 15 साल का लॉक-इन है तो टैक्स-सेविंग्स एफडी का लॉक-इन पांच साल है लेकिन ईएलएसएस के मामले में तीन ही साल है।

ईएलएसएस में लॉक-इन पीरियड खत्म होने के बाद यूनिट्स बेचने पर कोई एग्जिट लोड नहीं लगेगा।

इसमें चाहें तो एकमुश्त निवेश कर सकते हैं या एसआईपी (SIP) यानी एक नियमित समय अंतराल पर थोड़ा-थोड़ा करके भी लंबे समय में अच्छा फंड तैयार कर सकते हैं।

कैसा है रिटर्न के मामले में

ईएलएसएस में रिटर्न भी तगड़ा मिलता है। सिर्फ तीन साल के ही आंकड़ों को लेकर बात करें तो मोतीलाल ओसवाल ईएलएसएस टैक्स फंड डायरेक्ट ग्रोथ में सालाना 23.84%, आईटीआई ईएलएसएस टैक्स सेवर फंड डायरेक्ट ग्रोथ में 19.45%, व्हाइटओक कैपिटल ईएलएसएस टैक्स फंड डायरेक्ट ग्रोथ में 18.63%, एचएसबीसी ईएलएसएस टैक्स सेवर फंड डायरेक्ट ग्रोथ में 18.34% और जेएम ईएलएसएस टैक्स सेवर फंड डायरेक्ट ग्रोथ में 18.27% की रफ्तार से बढ़ा है।

Mahindra has extended its Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) ownership programme to the XEV 9S and the XEV 9e. Under BaaS, prices start at Rs 12.65 lakh for the XEV 9S and at Rs 13.90 lakh for the XEV 9e (all ex-showroom), and an additional Rs 3.75 per km will be charged for the battery. All of Mahindra’s born EVs are now available under the BaaS programme.

The BaaS program essentially brings down the entry price of both the XEV 9e and the XEV 9S by Rs 8 lakh, which is significant saving on the upfront cost of the vehicle. For reference, prices for the XE 9S start from Rs 20.65 lakh, while the XEV 9e is priced from Rs 21.90 lakh (ex-showroom, without charger)

Additionally, Mahindra has also extended the BaaS program to all variants of the BE 6 Sporteq – until now, it was only available on the Pack One and Pack Two trims with the smaller 59kWh battery. Mahindra, however, hasn’t revealed the exact variant-wise break up of BaaS prices for each of three EVs. 

The separate battery financing model carries an effective running cost calculated at Rs 3.75 per kilometre, based on an initial monthly battery EMI of Rs 6,975 assuming a daily running average of 60 kilometres alongside a specified down payment.

What is BaaS? 

BaaS is a pricing structure that excludes the cost of an EV’s battery pack from its ex-showroom price, affording the buyer a substantially lower upfront cost. The battery cost is then financed per kilometre of usage for a certain tenure and interest rate, depending on the financier. It’s worth noting, though, that charging expenditures are not included in the battery usage costs.

JSW-MG Motor India was the first carmaker to offer BaaS with the Windsor. Since then, several other electric carmakers such as Tata Motors, Maruti, Toyota, Hyundai and Citroen have adopted this pricing strategy to advance electric vehicle adoption. Mahindra is now the latest carmaker to adopt the BaaS model, although acceptance of BaaS among EV buyers is still very limited.

Besides that, the scooter continues with a 113.3cc engine with 8hp of power and 9.8Nm of torque. Also unchanged are its segment-leading features like 33 litres of underseat storage, an apron-mounted fuel tank, an Integrated Starter Generator (ISG) which enables silent start and fuel-saving start/stop tech, and SmartXonnect connected technology.

TVS has priced the dual tone spectral range at Rs 89,825, a Rs 3,000 increase over the SmartXonnect Disc variant and a Rs 525 increase over the Special Edition variant. TVS says the scooter will be available soon at dealerships across the country.

The MG Hector Tomahawk EV, like all MG EVs sold in India (excluding the M9 and the Cyberster), is available with a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) scheme that lowers the upfront cost. Notably, buyers opting for BaaS have to pay a battery rental fee of Rs 4.9 per kilometre. For the Hector Tomahawk EV, the scheme reduces the upfront price by up to Rs 6.01 lakh.

All trims feature a 69.2kWh battery pack, which powers a 204hp, 310Nm electric motor mounted on the front axle. The sprint from 0-100kph takes 8.2 seconds. On the Modified Indian Driving Cycle (MIDC), the SUV can go up to 517km on a single charge. As per MG, it takes about 35 minutes to charge the battery from 30 percent to 80 percent with a 90kW DC fast charger. With a 7.4kW AC unit, the carmaker claims a charging time of about 12.5 hours for a 10 percent to 100 percent top-up.

Which variant of the MG Hector Tomahawk EV should you buy?

The mid-spec Exclusive trim, priced at Rs 22 lakh, ex-showroom, is the one we recommend for the MG Hector Tomahawk EV. Compared to the base Excite, it adds front ventilated seats, a 50W wireless charger with cooling and a powered tailgate, features that should appeal to buyers of such an EV. With the BaaS option, the upfront cost can be reduced by Rs 6.1 lakh (as on August 26, 2026), making for a significant initial saving. Buyers who want the five-seat version will have to choose the top-spec Essence trim, as it is the only one available with this seating configuration. 

What’s good is that there is no difference in performance or range across the lineup. All trims use the same 69.2kWh battery pack and 204hp electric motor, while the MIDC-rated range remains identical at 517km.

Porsche revealed a one-off 911 Slantnose, also known as the Flachbau, at the 2026 Monterey Car Week. It’s mechanically based on a 991.2-generation 911 GT2 RS with the Weissach Package from 2018, while the design has been inspired by the 1978 Porsche 935 Le Mans race car called ‘Moby Dick’. The brand claims teams from Weissach and Manthey, alongside its own in-house design studio, motorsport division and the Sonderwunsch (‘special request’ in German) department, took three years to complete this project.

The silhouette of this Porsche 911 GT2 RS is understandably different due to its Slantnose conversion. The front fascia sports new, staggered LED headlamps that look sleek– the low-beam, high-beam and DRL elements are stacked above one another. These are integrated into the black U-shaped portion around the bonnet, which extends to right above the lowered front fenders. The latter has specially designed vents to prevent the build-up of air pressure in the wheel arches, claims Porsche.

The custom Manthey Kit brings along a redesigned front bumper with small canards on the sides, a new underbody structure, plus a different front splitter and rear diffuser. While the front alloy wheels are of a conventional design, the carbon-fibre aero discs used for the rear units help reduce drag, according to Porsche. The Slantnose gets a large rear wing with S-shaped mounts inspired by the 911 GT3 R rennsport, allowing three manually adjustable positions. At the car’s top speed, Porsche claims that this wing generates 554kg of downforce.

The one-off Slantnose is painted in the brand’s Grand Prix White colour, but gets contrasting black accents and a black finish on the bonnet and roof. Adding more contrast are the black brake callipers and exposed carbon-fibre trim. There are ‘Flachbau RS’ lettering and decals, too, while the Nordschleife is depicted on the rear wing. Since the shape of the front fenders had been altered, the fuel-filler flap and its underlying mechanism also has to be modified, says Porsche. “Our aim was to reinterpret the iconic look of the 935 without compromising on safety, technology or road legality”, Alexander Fabig, Vice President Product Offering & Individualisation at Porsche, said.

Opening the doors will reveal ‘Flachbau RS’ branding on the sills and seat headrests. There’s an outline of the Nordschleife drawn behind the front seats, along with a small gold-coloured plaque mentioning ‘Sonderwunsch’ and ‘Factory One-Off 2026 | Flachbau RS’ on the dashboard. Meanwhile, the interior continues to use the red Alcantara, black leather and exposed carbon-fibre trim originally available in the customer’s 911 GT2 RS.

Saving weight has been another important goal with this one-off Slantnose. To that effect, Porsche says it has removed the rear seats and individual wires, instead opting for simpler protective sheaths to cover newly laid wiring. Generous use of carbon fibre aside, the brand has removed the donor car’s infotainment system, replacing it with a leather-trimmed storage compartment.

Other features to have been deleted include the audio system, floor coverings in the cabin and luggage space, and sound-deadening materials throughout the car. The end result of all these weight-saving measures means that this Slantnose is 31.6kg lighter than the donor vehicle it’s based on.

Powering this one-off Slantnose is the same 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged six-cylinder engine found in the 991.2-generation 911 GT2 RS. This unit churns out 700hp and 750Nm of torque, and it drives the rear wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. The claimed top speed of this one-off 911 is 340kph.

Porsche says that it built three test vehicles for validating data, while aerodynamic calculations being carried out using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to further optimise the overall design. These prototypes were subjected to multiple wind-tunnel tests, real-world road tests, and 50 laps on the Nurburgring-Nordschleife.

Much of the Revuelto SV’s performance enhancement measures on the outside over the standard model are quite discernible. The fascia looks even sportier as the heavily revised bumper features new carbon-fibre elements plus a larger and more aggressive front splitter and intakes.

Lamborghini has also added a large fixed wing at the back, while a specially designed underbody and active flaps are also likely additions to enhance the Revuelto SV’s aerodynamic performance on the track. Similarly, lightweight carbon-fibre wheels and race-spec brakes are expected to be part of the package as well, along with unique paint options and exterior detailing exclusive to the SV.

The first teaser campaign from the brand provides us a glimpse into the Lamborghini Revuelto SV’s interior. Noticeable in the interior image is a heavy-duty roll cage, exposed metal surfaces and a bare-bones rear-cabin section. Other details that are visible here include a leather & carbon fibre-trimmed steering wheel with a red centre marker and carbon-fibre shift paddles. The bucket seats are also likely to be carbon-fibre units, whilst the shrouding for the digital driver’s display uses the same weight-saving material. The Revuelto SV’s interior could feature plenty of Alcantara/suede, depending on how a customer specs it. One can also expect to see ‘SV’ branding and other edition-specific detailing on this interior.

Powertrain and performance

Powering the Lamborghini Revuelto SV will be the familiar 6.5-litre naturally aspirated V12, along with three electric motors and a compact lithium-ion battery pack. Lamborghini is likely to have reworked the 8-speed dual-clutch transmission for quicker shifts, and the combined output from the hybrid powertrain is expected to go up as well.

Lamborghini recently set a lap record of 1:41.6 at the Hockenheimring track, with the brand claiming this to be the fastest lap ever recorded at this facility by a production car. The standard Revuelto offers 1,015hp and 725Nm of torque, allowing it to hit a top speed of over 350kph and accelerate from 0-100kph in a claimed 2.5 seconds. The SV is likely to be even faster, with retuned suspension and sharper steering also expected for improved handling on the track.

The Mercedes-AMG E53 Hybrid 4MATIC+ arrives at a time when performance cars are being asked to do more than simply go fast. It has to deliver the pace and character expected of an AMG while embracing electrification to meet increasingly stringent emissions norms and changing buyer expectations. The result is a plug-in hybrid performance sedan that combines a 3.0-litre turbo-petrol inline-six engine with an electric motor for a formidable system output of 585hp, while also offering enough electric-only range for mundane daily drives.

But this isn’t just an E-Class with a bigger battery and more power. The E53 gets AMG-specific chassis hardware, all-wheel drive, rear-wheel steering and a suite of performance-focused electronics designed to counter the added weight. Can this electrified AMG still deliver the thrills enthusiasts expect while remaining a genuinely usable luxury sedan every day?

Mercedes-AMG E53 Exterior Design and Engineering

Expectedly, the E 53 has put on quite a bit of muscle. The front bumper is sportier, with large air dams. The Panamericana grille gets illuminated surrounds and is wide enough to gulp massive amounts of air to cool the engine, while the power lines on the bonnet add more intent to its character.

The profile flaunts flared wheel arches, larger 20-inch wheels (the last-gen E 53 featured 19-inchers) and, like before, a standard wheelbase, giving it sportier proportions than the long-wheelbase E-Class.

At the rear, there’s an E 53 badge with red highlights, a quad-exhaust setup that isn’t actually connected to the exhaust pipes, a diffuser and a ducktail spoiler that’s large enough to be noticed but won’t do much for downforce.

Overall, it’s a handsome-looking car with just the right amount of restraint. However, if you’re looking for a bit more visual drama, you’ll have to pay extra for the MANUFAKTUR paint finishes, as the standard colour palette is more E-Class than AMG.

Mercedes-AMG E53 Interior Space and Comfort 

Inside, the E 53 strikes an appealing balance between luxury and sportiness. Instead of carbon-fibre or piano-black trim, Mercedes has used open-pore wood that feels rich and tactile. A large central MBUX touchscreen dominates the dashboard, while the passenger display found on the standard E is absent – not particularly bothersome given how good the main screen is.

The AMG sports seats offer plenty of support and adjustment, although ventilated and massage functions are missing. Likewise, the chunky AMG steering wheel feels superb in hand but is cluttered with touch-sensitive controls that remain frustrating to use.

Rear-seat space is naturally tighter than the long-wheelbase E-Class, but there’s still enough room for two adults to travel comfortably. Manual sunblinds and a panoramic sunroof add to the ambience, although the large transmission tunnel makes this a strict four-seater.

The boot, however, sees the biggest compromise. At 370 litres, it’s 170 litres smaller than the standard E-Class because the battery sits beneath the floor. There’s no spare wheel either, with its space instead occupied by the charging cable and puncture repair kit.

Mercedes-AMG E53 Features and Safety

The E 53 is a well-equipped sedan despite missing features such as ventilated seats. The centre screen is the brains of the operation and, unfortunately, many of the controls are routed through it, making them difficult to operate on the move.

We’ve praised the MBUX infotainment system for its clear interface and high-resolution display, but usability isn’t its strongest suit. The large screen makes it difficult to accurately select the desired function while driving.

Too many controls on the steering is distracting

The E 53 gets a comprehensive suite of driver assistance systems, including Lane Keep Assist, Automatic Emergency Braking, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Blind Spot Monitoring. Thankfully, these systems can also be switched off manually if required.

The 360-degree camera is crisp and high-resolution, while the 17-speaker Burmester 4D audio system delivers an exceptional listening experience. As impressive as the sound system is, however, it ultimately plays second fiddle to the performance on offer.

Mercedes-AMG E53 Performance and Refinement

Like before, the new E 53 is powered by a 3.0-litre turbo-petrol straight-six engine. This time, however, it gets support from a 28.6kWh battery pack and an electric motor, taking the combined output to 585hp and 750Nm.

Unlike the bigger PHEV AMGs, the E 53 isn’t an ‘E PERFORMANCE’ model, which means the electric motor is mounted within the gearbox housing rather than integrated into the rear axle. Power is sent to all four wheels via the familiar 9-speed automatic transmission, and the E 53 gets a host of drive modes that are noticeably different from one another.

‘Individual’ lets you tailor the engine, gearbox and suspension to your liking. ‘Battery Hold’ prevents the car from using the battery charge, saving it for when you truly need it. ‘EL’ is the full-electric mode, provided there’s sufficient charge in the battery. ‘Comfort’ offers a more relaxed setup, ‘Sport’ sharpens the responses, and ‘Sport+’ is the most aggressive setting.

Naturally, Sport+ is the mode you’ll spend most of your time in if you want the E 53 to feel like a proper AMG. The exhaust note, the urgency of the power delivery and the firmer suspension all come together beautifully. With the engine and electric motor working at full tilt, straight-line performance is genuinely rapid. Acceleration is smooth yet thrilling, as the engine piles on speed rapidly without the neck-snapping brutality of a powerful EV. Power delivery is strong and linear across the rev range, and the gearbox complements the aggressive character of Sport+ perfectly. 0-100kph takes just 4 secs with the ‘Race Start’ which is essentially launch control included in the AMG Dynamic Plus package as power jumps up to 612hp.

For greater driver involvement, you can also engage ‘M’ mode, which gives you full manual control of the gearbox. It will happily bounce off the limiter without automatically upshifting until you pull a paddle.

The exhaust note is a bit of a mixed bag. It’s genuine, but it’s also channelled into the cabin through the speakers and a subwoofer in the boot. It’s not the ideal solution because, outside the car, the engine and exhaust produce a genuinely enjoyable snarl. Still, in an era of synthesised, computer-generated soundtracks, a real exhaust note—even if it’s amplified through the speakers—is worth appreciation.

Switch to Comfort mode and the E 53 adopts an entirely different character. It’s calm, refined and smooth, with gentler power delivery that’s well suited to long-distance cruising.

Where the powertrain disappoints is in city traffic and slow stop-start driving. The gearbox is simply too eager and, even in Comfort mode, it feels a bit like walking an overexcited Rottweiler. It’s constantly trying to surge forward and grab the next gear before you’ve asked it to. The constant shuffling through the lower gears results in unnecessary jerks that spoil the experience.

The solution is to engage EL mode. It’s almost as if it was designed specifically for this scenario. In EL, the E 53 feels smooth and effortless. There’s very little noise apart from the drone generated by the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres, which can be quite rumbly, especially on concrete surfaces.

Braking is less convincing, however. Despite massive 390mm front discs and regenerative braking, the pedal never delivers a natural or consistent feel. Stopping power is strong, but the spongy, inconsistent pedal detracts from an otherwise polished driving experience.

Mercedes-AMG E53 Mileage and Efficiency

One of the biggest talking points of the new E 53 isn’t its staggering performance, but the fact that it can deliver it without constantly visiting a fuel station. This plug-in hybrid marks a significant shift in AMG’s philosophy, combining electrification with a silky-smooth six-cylinder engine to create a performance sedan that’s as comfortable commuting as it is attacking a mountain road.

Charging via an 11kW AC charger will replenish the battery in 2.25 hrs; No DC charging option

The headline figure is a claimed electric-only range of up to 100km, courtesy a 28.6kWh battery pack. You can expect 75-90km on electric power alone making it entirely possible to complete daily urban commutes without firing up the engine. 

Once the battery begins to deplete, the turbocharged 3.0-litre inline-six takes centre stage. Even then, the hybrid system continues to contribute through regenerative braking and electric assistance, ensuring the E 53 feels responsive while reducing fuel consumption compared to a conventional performance sedan. Mercedes has also equipped the car with four regenerative braking modes, allowing drivers to maximise energy recovery or opt for a more natural driving experience. For owners with access to home or workplace charging, fuel stops could become surprisingly infrequent. Charging is equally convenient, with the 11kW AC onboard charger replenishing the battery in around three hours.

Mercedes-AMG E53 Ride Comfort and Handling

For those who enjoy being behind the wheel, the E 53 delivers in abundance. Despite carrying the additional weight of a sizable battery pack, it feels remarkably composed. In Sport and Sport+, the car tightens up noticeably. Body roll is kept firmly in check, the dampers become more alert, and the steering gains welcome heft. What impresses most is how well the chassis disguises its mass. The battery may add considerable weight, but it’s mounted low in the car, lowering the centre of gravity and lending the E 53 impressive stability through fast corners.

The rear-biased 4MATIC+ all-wheel-drive system plays a major role here. The rear wheels can turn up to 2.5 degrees, which isn’t a huge amount, as you’ll still find yourself making the occasional three-point turn. Above 60kph, however, they turn in the same direction as the front wheels, adding another layer of stability through corners.

It is over 400kg heavier than the last-gen model but you just can’t feel it from behind the wheel

The Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres aren’t the quietest, but they allow the driver to deploy the combined output with confidence, even when exiting slower bends. Turn-in is crisp, and while the steering isn’t overflowing with feedback, it’s accurate enough to place the car confidently on a winding road. 

At low speeds, the adaptive AMG Ride Control suspension does an admirable job of filtering out broken tarmac, expansion joints and sharp-edged potholes. It isn’t perfect, though. Compared with the last-generation E 53, which rode on smaller 19-inch wheels with taller-profile tyres, the new car’s 20-inch wheels have sacrificed a degree of ride compliance. As a result, the low-profile tyres transmit the occasional thud over particularly nasty potholes.

The adaptive dampers mated with the active engine mounts offer terrific stability

Ultimately, the Mercedes-AMG E 53 Hybrid 4MATIC+ isn’t as razor-sharp as a dedicated sports sedan, nor is it as pillowy as the standard E-Class. Instead, it strikes an impressive middle ground, blending everyday comfort with genuine driver engagement. It’s a car that feels just as at home soaking up kilometres on the expressway as it does carving through a series of fast, flowing corners.

Mercedes-AMG E53 Value for Money

Prices start at Rs 1.45 crore for the Performance Edition and Rs 1.48 crore for the Racing Edition. In this price range, there isn’t a direct rival to the E 53. The BMW M5 is both more powerful and considerably more expensive, while the BMW M4 is effectively rivalled by the Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 as a two-door coupe. The Audi RS5, meanwhile, hasn’t been launched in India yet.

The E 53 succeeds because it doesn’t try to be everything at once. It delivers the pace, handling and character expected of an AMG while introducing meaningful electric-only capability that genuinely enhances everyday usability. The brakes may lack the natural feel you’d expect from a performance sedan, and the gearbox can feel over-eager in slow-moving traffic, but these shortcomings do little to overshadow what is otherwise a remarkably accomplished package.

Fast, engaging and surprisingly efficient, the new E53 Hybrid is one of the most complete performance sedans on sale today. More importantly, it proves that electrification doesn’t have to dilute the AMG experience—it can make it even more usable.

Ethanol

India completed the nationwide rollout of E20 petrol in April last year, making it the standard grade of petrol sold at fuel stations across the country. E20 contains 20 percent ethanol and 80 percent petrol, replacing the lower ethanol blends that were sold previously.

The transition has raised several questions among vehicle owners about compatibility, fuel efficiency, maintenance, warranties and long-term reliability. We separate the facts from the misconceptions and answer the key questions around E20.

1. What is E20 petrol and why has India switched to it?

E20 is fuel blended with 20 percent ethanol and 80 percent petrol. Ethanol is a biofuel produced from agricultural feedstocks such as sugarcane, maize and surplus food grains. India introduced the Ethanol Blended Petrol (EBP) Programme in 2003 with E5 petrol, and while the blended percentage kept varying for a while, it was eventually increased to E10 before completing the nationwide rollout of E20 in 2025, five years ahead of the planned implementation. According to the government, the programme aims to reduce dependence on imported crude oil, improve energy security, lower emissions and create an additional market for agricultural produce.

2. Can I use E20 fuel in my car or bike?

New petrol cars and two-wheelers sold in India today are compatible with E20 petrol. Under the government’s roadmap, vehicle manufacturers were required to make new petrol models manufactured from April 2023 compatible with E20.

Vehicles manufactured before April 2023 were designed for lower ethanol blends, so compatibility may vary depending on the model and year of manufacturing. However, some brands state that they had E20 material compliance before 2023, for a list click here

3. How do I know if my car is E20 compatible?

The easiest way is to check your vehicle’s fuel flap or the owner’s manual or contact the manufacturer’s authorised dealership. As part of the government’s E20 roadmap, manufacturers progressively introduced E20-compatible petrol vehicles from 2023 onwards. However, compatibility can vary depending on the model and year of manufacture, so owners should not assume that every petrol vehicle is fully E20-compatible. 

4. Can E20 damage older engines or fuel-system components?

Concerns about E20 mainly relate to older vehicles that were not originally designed for higher ethanol blends. While ethanol has not been found to significantly directly affect metal fuel-system components, prolonged exposure to E20 can accelerate wear in some older rubber and plastic parts such as fuel hoses, seals, O-rings, gaskets and certain fuel pipes if they are made from materials that are not ethanol compatible.

Before approving E20, ARAI tested metals, elastomers and plastics commonly used in fuel systems. The study found no significant corrosion of metal components, but certain rubber compounds and plastics used in older vehicles showed greater deterioration than with E10 fuel. These findings prompted manufacturers to use ethanol-compatible materials in newer vehicles. Thus, owners of older vehicles should keep up with regular servicing and follow the manufacturer’s recommended maintenance schedule, increasing the inspection frequency if damage is suspected. 

5. Does E20 reduce fuel efficiency?

Yes. E20 fuel generally returns lower fuel efficiency than petrol with a lower ethanol content because ethanol contains less energy than petrol. The exact reduction varies depending on the vehicle, engine and calibration.

ARAI estimates a fuel efficiency drop of 1-6 percent with E20, while some manufacturers put it closer to 7-8 percent. In Autocar India’s real-world testing, both newer E20-compatible cars and older pre-E20 vehicles recorded a measurable drop in mileage when compared with an equivalent E10 blend. Among the newer cars, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire recorded a 3.8 percent drop, while the Hyundai Creta N Line saw a 12.6 percent decline. 

Among older BS4-era cars, the Volkswagen Polo GT TSI posted a 5.2 percent drop, while the older Maruti Suzuki Dzire recorded a mileage drop of 12.4 percent.

The results also showed that there is no single figure applicable to every vehicle. Factors such as engine calibration and compression ratio all influence fuel efficiency, meaning some vehicles adapt better to E20 than others. 

6. Does E20 improve performance or reduce emissions?

Yes, but not in a way that most motorists are likely to notice. E20 has a higher-octane rating than regular petrol, which improves resistance to engine knocking and can benefit engines designed to take advantage of higher-octane fuel. 

The government says E20 aims to lower emissions by replacing a portion of petrol with domestically produced ethanol which is a renewable fuel. For most motorists, however, the most noticeable effect of switching to E20 is likely to be a small drop in mileage rather than a change in vehicle performance.

7. Is E20’s water contamination issue a real problem?

Ethanol is hygroscopic, meaning it has the capability to absorb moisture. As a result, E20 is more susceptible to water contamination if excess moisture enters the fuel during storage or handling. In severe cases, this can lead to phase separation, where the ethanol and water separate from the petrol, affecting fuel quality.

Some petrol pump operators have raised concerns that existing underground storage tanks, particularly during the monsoon or in coastal areas, could be more prone to moisture ingress, increasing the risk of phase separation. However, the government and the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) says that there is no evidence linking E20 itself to widespread fuel contamination or vehicle failures.

8. Will using E20 affect my vehicle’s warranty?

For most owners, no. Vehicle manufacturers have said that using E20 petrol will not affect the warranty of their vehicles, and valid warranties will continue to be honoured. The government, SIAM and several manufacturers have stated that vehicles continue to be covered under their standard warranty terms when fuelled with E20, for a full list click here. SIAM has also said that OEMs will honour the warranty committed to customers for E20 usage, and that insurance claims will remain unaffected.

9. Why isn’t E20 petrol cheaper than regular petrol?

Although E20 contains 20 percent ethanol, it is not cheaper than regular petrol because ethanol currently costs more to procure and blend than petrol under prevailing market conditions. The cost of ethanol procurement, tax, transportation, blending and distribution offsets any potential saving from replacing a portion of petrol with domestically produced ethanol.

Any savings from lower crude oil imports are realised at the national level rather than by consumers through lower pump prices. 

10. Why can’t I still buy E10 or pure petrol?

Because by policy E20 is now India’s standard petrol. Following the nationwide rollout of the Ethanol Blending Programme, oil companies have standardised regular petrol and premium 95-octane petrol to an E20 blend. Maintaining parallel supplies of E10 and E20 would require separate storage, transportation and dispensing infrastructure, making nationwide distribution significantly more complex.

As a result, motorists can no longer choose between E10 and E20 at regular fuel stations. The only exception is 100-octane petrol, such as IndianOil XP100 and HP Power100, which remains effectively ethanol-free because it is a niche fuel sold in limited volumes. For most vehicle owners, however, E20 is now the only petrol available.

11. Is the government planning to increase ethanol blending beyond E20?

Not yet, but the groundwork has begun. While the government has said no decision has been taken to mandate petrol with more than 20 percent ethanol, it has begun preparing the regulatory framework for higher blends.

In May 2026, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) notified fuel quality standards for E22, E25, E27 and E30 petrol, indicating that the government is laying the groundwork for future adoption. It has also proposed recognising E85 and E100 fuels under the Central Motor Vehicles Rules. 

Separately, the government has tasked the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) with studying the impact of E25 petrol on existing E10- and E20-compatible vehicles, including its effect on fuel efficiency, durability, emissions and engine performance under long-term use.

However, any move beyond E20 will require extensive testing and consultation with vehicle manufacturers, fuel companies and research agencies to assess engine durability, emissions and fuel-system compatibility before it is introduced.

12. What should owners of older cars do now?

If your vehicle is not certified as E20-compatible, it does not necessarily mean it will experience immediate problems. However, owners should follow the manufacturer’s guidance, keep up with regular servicing and replace worn fuel-system components as required. It would also be prudent to increase the frequency of inspection of your vehicles fuel system to ensure there is no corrosive damage and catch it before it gets acute. 

If you own a classic car, an older imported vehicle or a high-performance model designed for lower ethanol blends, using ethanol-free 100-octane petrol may be worth considering.

13. Can I convert my vehicle to run on E20 fuel? 

Yes, but official upgrade programmes are currently limited and while a few manufacturers, like Royal Enfield and Maruti Suzuki, had mentioned a plan for these earlier, they don’t have much to say for now. In a recent government press conference that aimed to quell the E20 backlash, Maruti stated that the kits are for R&D purpose only.

Theoretically, it’s possible to replace critical components susceptible to E20 damage with those designed to handle the fuel – especially if your vehicle is still in production – and if you feel the need to, you can go ahead and have parts like fuel lines, fuel pump and gaskets replaced but by your authorised workshops only. 

So, should you be worried about E20 petrol?

Not worried, but alert. Modern petrol cars and bikes designed or updated for E20 are engineered to run on the fuel without major issues, and extensive testing by the government, research agencies and manufacturers found no evidence of widespread reliability concerns.That said, E20 is not without trade-offs. Most motorists should expect a small reduction in fuel efficiency. 

For owners of older vehicles, it would be wise to pay closer attention to fuel-system maintenance.
