Kolkata Durga Puja Stampede:

Hero Xtreme 250R Carbon launched at Rs 1.98 lakh

Hero Xtreme 250R Carbon launched at Rs 1.98 lakh
Hero Xtreme 250R static

Alongside the heavily revised Xtreme 160R 4V, Hero has also taken the wraps off an updated Xtreme 250R that brings a significant addition of electronics and rider aids.

  1. Gets a TFT display, bi-directional quickshifter, riding modes and traction control
  2. Adds segment-first Frequency Selective Damping (FSD) rear suspension
  3. 249cc liquid-cooled single makes 30hp and 25.3Nm

What’s new on the updated Hero Xtreme 250R?

The engine and overall design remain largely unchanged

For starters, the Xtreme 250R now features a 4.2 inch TFT instrument cluster (from the Xpulse 210) that replaces the older LCD unit, enabling multiple features, including smartphone connectivity, turn-by-turn navigation, and a lap timer. The addition of a ride-by-wire throttle system introduces four riding modes – Rain, Road, Sport and Track – along with traction control. Each mode gets its own traction control calibration. A bi-directional quickshifter is also new, as are cruise control and a tyre pressure monitoring system.

Other notable additions include a rear monoshock with Frequency Selective Damping (FSD). It uses a secondary valve system to automatically vary damping stiffness based on the frequency of road inputs, making the suspension firmer over high-frequency surface chatter and softer over low-frequency bumps. The 43mm USD fork at the front remains unchanged.

Not much has changed with regard to the powertrain, and the bike continues to be powered by a 249cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine producing 30hp at 9,250rpm and 25.3Nm at 7,500rpm – the latter represents a 0.3Nm bump, delivered 250rpm higher in the rev band.

The new Xtreme 250R will be available in three new colour options – Carbon Red, Carbon Black and Carbon White. At Rs 1.98 lakh, the added features come at a substantial Rs 25,000 premium over the existing standard Xtreme 250R, bringing it much closer to rivals like the KTM 250 Duke, which is priced at Rs 2.28 lakh.

The Nexon is available with petrol, diesel, CNG and electric powertrains. It rivals the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet and Mahindra XUV 3XO and is priced from Rs 7.40 lakh to Rs 14.52 lakh for the ICE powered Nexon, while the Nexon EV starts at Rs 12.49 lakh and goes up to 17.89 lakh.

3. Tata Punch

The Tata Punch, including the Punch EV, recorded 20,333 units in September 2026, up 28 percent from 15,891 units a year earlier. It ranked third in the overall list, with the Nexon finishing narrowly ahead. Tata’s smallest SUV is offered with multiple powertrain options, while its compact dimensions and ride-and-handling balance remain key strengths. The Punch rivals the Hyundai Exter and Citroen C3 and is priced from Rs 5.75 lakh to Rs 10.77 lakh. The Punch EV meanwhile is priced from Rs 9.79 lakh to Rs 12.99 lakh.

4. Maruti Suzuki Fronx

The Fronx’s crossover styling, comfortable cabin and fuel-efficient powertrains continue to support demand, although it lacks some popular features. It rivals the Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger and is priced between Rs 6.85 lakh and Rs 11.84 lakh.

5. Maruti Suzuki Wagon R

The Maruti Suzuki Wagon R recorded 18,835 units in September 2026, up 22 percent from 15,388 units in the same month last year. It finished fifth in the rankings. The Wagon R rivals the Tata Tiago and Citroen C3 and is priced between Rs 4.99 lakh and Rs 7.24 lakh.

6. Maruti Suzuki Dzire

The Maruti Suzuki Dzire recorded 17,754 units in September 2026, down 11 percent from 20,038 units in September 2025. It ranked sixth and was the only sedan in the top 10. 7. Hyundai Creta

The Hyundai Creta, including the Creta Electric, recorded 17,657 units in September 2026, a 6 percent decline from 18,861 units in the year-ago month. The Scorpio nameplate remains popular for its strong engines, rugged character and off-road ability. However, the third-row seating is cramped and the luggage area is not particularly practical. The Scorpio N rivals the Tata Safari, Hyundai Alcazar and Mahindra XUV 7XO and is priced from Rs 13.69 lakh to Rs 25.49 lakh.

10. Maruti Suzuki Ertiga

The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga completed the top 10 with 16,911 units in September 2026, up 40 percent from 12,115 units in the same month last year. It was the sixth Maruti Suzuki model in the rankings. 350cc Triumph Bonneville: Price and variants explained

350cc Triumph Bonneville: Price and variants explained
350cc Triumph Bonneville variant breakdown graphic

Triumph has revealed its 350cc Bonneville range for India, sharing its 350cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder platform with the rest of the ‘400’ portfolio. Three variants make up the lineup – the T4, T40 and T40 Black – with the entry-level T4 sold exclusively in India and the T40 pair serving as the globally available models. Here’s what separates them.

350cc Triumph Bonneville variant breakdown

Bonneville T4

The T4 is the India-exclusive entry point into the Bonneville range, priced Rs 25,000 below the T40 at Rs 2.55 lakh. It is mechanically identical to the T40 but steps down on electronics – a colour LCD display replaces the T40’s 4-inch TFT, and it drops cruise control and the IMU, which means lean-sensitive ABS gives way to standard dual-channel ABS. It is available in three solid colours: green, black and red with deliveries set to begin the second week of January 2027.

Bonneville T40

At Rs 2.80 lakh, the T40 is the standard international-spec model. It debuts a new round 4-inch colour TFT display with five riding modes – Road, Rain, Eco and two fully customisable modes – traction control, cruise control and lean-sensitive ABS. A Heritage display layout gives the console a more old-school appearance, and pairing a phone via the Triumph Navigation app brings turn-by-turn navigation to the screen. Deliveries begin November 2026.

Bonneville T40 Black

Priced identically to the T40 at Rs 2.80 lakh and carrying the same full feature set, the T40 Black is distinguished solely by blacked-out engine and cycle parts. Deliveries are also expected in November 2026.

All three variants share the same reworked 350cc liquid-cooled single – fitted with a revised cylinder head, smaller throttle bodies, dedicated camshafts and a new peashooter exhaust – producing 29hp at 7,000rpm and 31.2Nm at 5,500rpm, tuned for a torque-rich low- and mid-range. The chassis is also shared with a new all-rear frame with a welded subframe and tubular steel swingarm, a 43mm right-way-up fork, and twin rear shocks. Braking comes from a 310mm front disc with a twin-piston axial caliper and a 255mm rear disc with a single-piston caliper.

Triumph Bonneville T40 vs Bonneville T4: Price and differences explained

Triumph Bonneville T40 vs Bonneville T4: Price and differences explained
Triumph Bonneville T40 and Bonneville T4 in clockwise direction.

The latest Triumph 400s – the Bonneville T40 and the Bonneville T4 – are perhaps the most important ones yet, since they carry Triumph’s most storied nameplate. While the T40 has debuted internationally, the Bonneville T4 is an India-specific motorcycle, owing to our sensitivity to value. It’s also worth noting that the Bonneville T40 gets a downsized 349cc engine in India (like with the rest of the range) – one that it shares with the Bonneville T4. If you’re thinking about one of them, what do you gain (or lose) with the other? That’s what we are here to help you with.

Triumph Bonneville T40 vs Bonneville T4: What’s the same?

Mechanically identical

Like we mentioned, both the motorcycles share the same 349cc engine with 29hp and 31.2Nm of torque. On paper, these numbers sound close to the Triumph Speed T4 but Triumph categorically denies any similarities to the T4. The Bonnie gets a new camshaft, cylinder head, and narrower throttle bodies; the engine is also tuned to prioritise low-end performance, in line with what’s expected for the segment. Elsewhere, both Bonnies share the same 6-speed transmission, a 14.5-litre fuel tank, slip-and-assist clutch, ride-by-wire technology, 195kg kerb weight, 790mm seat height, as well as 165mm ground clearance.

Triumph Bonneville T40 vs Bonneville T4: Design and colours

T40 gets more intricate colour options

Triumph Bonneville T40 in Fusion White/Phantom Black.
Triumph Bonneville T4 in Carnival Red.

Colours will be the most obvious way to tell the two Bonnevilles apart. Being the more expensive one, the T40 gets an understated Black colour. If that isn’t to your taste, you get three more colour options to choose from: Blue/Tangerine, Dark Blue/White and White/Black. The Bonneville T4, in contrast – or lack thereof – gets three single-colourways: Black, Green and Red. Both motorcycles do get hand finished details, but the more intricate details are reserved for the T40.

Triumph Bonneville T40 vs Bonneville T4: Features

T40 gets more features and rider aids

Triumph Bonneville T40's 4-inch TFT display.
Triumph Bonneville T4's 4-inch LCD screen.

Triumph debuted a new, circular 4-inch TFT display on the Bonneville T40; it also gets a host of new rider aids such as, five ride modes, an inertial measurement unit (IMU) that enables cornering ABS and traction control, Triumph-powered turn-by-turn navigation, and cruise control as standard. The new TFT display, alongside the advanced electronics, sets the T40 apart not only from the Bonneville T4, but also from every other Triumph 400 on the market.

Speaking of, the Bonneville T4 also gets a new, circular 4-inch display, but it’s an LCD unit. It doesn’t have an IMU and hence loses out on corner-sensitivity for ABS and traction control, and cruise control. It’s not all bad news though, for the Bonneville T4 still gets three ride modes, non-Triumph-powered turn-by-turn navigation, dual-channel ABS, and traction control.

Triumph Bonneville T40 vs Bonneville T4: Price

The T40’s extra features come at a cost

Triumph Bonneville T40

Price (ex-showroom, Delhi)

Rs 2.80 lakh

Rs 2.55 lakh

For all the additional features on offer, Triumph charges Rs 25,000 extra for the Bonneville T40. The T40 gets a single variant with four aforementioned colours at Rs 2.80 lakh. The Bonneville T4, on the other hand, is priced at Rs 2.55 lakh for its single variant and three colours. If you’re planning to go for the T40, Triumph has promised that deliveries will start in November 2026. If you have decided that you’re better off with the Bonneville T4 though, you can make a booking now, but deliveries are set to begin only in the second week of January 2027, so that’s at least a two-month wait.
