kia sorento launched : किआ इंडिया ने भारत के प्रीमियम थ्री-रो SUV सेगमेंट में कदम रखते हुए अपनी ग्लोबल SUV Kia Sorento को भारत में लॉन्च कर दिया है। इसकी शुरुआती एक्स-शोरूम कीमत ₹27.99 लाख रखी गई है। वहीं, इसका Hybrid मॉडल ₹29.99 लाख की शुरुआती कीमत पर उपलब्ध होगा।

Kia Sorento के साथ कंपनी ने भारत में पहली बार Hybrid पावरट्रेन पेश किया है। इसके अलावा, भारत-स्पेक Sorento में Kia AI Assistant भी पेश किया गया है, जिसमें रियल-टाइम Generative AI की क्षमता है। कंपनी के मुताबिक, यह तकनीक पहली बार वैश्विक स्तर पर Sorento में पेश की गई है। Kia Sorento की आधिकारिक डिलीवरी 4 सितंबर 2026 से देशभर में शुरू हो गई है।

 

भारत में पहली बार Hybrid पावरट्रेन

 

Kia Sorento को Hybrid और Diesel, दो पावरट्रेन विकल्पों के साथ पेश किया गया है। Hybrid मॉडल में Smartstream 1.6 Turbo GDI Hybrid इंजन मिलता है। इस इंजन से 180 PS की पावर और 265 Nm का टॉर्क मिलता है। इसके साथ 65 PS का इलेक्ट्रिक मोटर दिया गया है, जो 264 Nm का टॉर्क पैदा करता है। Hybrid पावरट्रेन को 6-स्पीड ऑटोमैटिक गियरबॉक्स से जोड़ा गया है।

 

दूसरा विकल्प Smartstream 2.2 Diesel इंजन है, जो 193 PS की पावर और 442 Nm का टॉर्क देता है। इसे 8-स्पीड Dual Clutch Transmission (8DCT) के साथ जोड़ा गया है। दोनों पावरट्रेन में Eco, Normal, Smart और Sport ड्राइव मोड दिए गए हैं।

 

Hybrid के साथ AWD का भी विकल्प

 

Kia Sorento अपने सेगमेंट की पहली SUV है जिसमें Hybrid पावरट्रेन के साथ All-Wheel Drive (AWD) का विकल्प दिया गया है। Hybrid और Diesel दोनों पावरट्रेन AWD के साथ उपलब्ध हैं। इनमें Snow, Sand और Mud जैसे Terrain Modes दिए गए हैं, जो अलग-अलग परिस्थितियों में बेहतर ट्रैक्शन और टॉर्क डिस्ट्रीब्यूशन में मदद करते हैं।

 

4,815 mm लंबी और 1,900 mm चौड़ी SUV

 

Sorento को Kia के ग्लोबल N3 प्लेटफॉर्म पर तैयार किया गया है। इसकी लंबाई 4,815 mm, चौड़ाई 1,900 mm, व्हीलबेस 2,815 mm और रूफ रेल्स के साथ ऊंचाई 1,785 mm है। कंपनी के अनुसार, यह अपने सेगमेंट की सबसे लंबी और चौड़ी SUV है। इसका बड़ा आकार तीनों रो में ज्यादा जगह उपलब्ध कराने में मदद करता है। SUV के फ्रंट में Kia Digital Tiger Face, Crystal Cube LED Projection Headlamps और Star Map LED DRLs दिए गए हैं। पीछे Star Map LED Tail Lamps मिलते हैं। इसके अलावा SUV में Satin Chrome फिनिश वाली फ्रंट और रियर स्किड प्लेट, Satin Chrome बेल्टलाइन और इंटीग्रेटेड रियर स्पॉयलर भी दिया गया है। Sorento में 18-इंच Sporty Crystal Cut Alloy Wheels और 19-इंच Premium Crystal Cut Alloy Wheels का विकल्प मिलता है।

 

प्रीमियम केबिन में 12.3-इंच के दो डिस्प्ले

 

Kia Sorento के केबिन को प्रीमियम और टेक्नोलॉजी से लैस बनाया गया है। इसमें Panoramic Curved Display Panel मिलता है, जिसमें 31.24 cm यानी 12.3-इंच HD Touchscreen Navigation Cockpit और 12.3-इंच HD Digital Instrument Cluster शामिल हैं। इसके साथ Windshield Head-Up Display और Advanced Digital IRVM दिया गया है। SUV में Smoky Black & Grey और टॉप HTX वेरिएंट में Black & Olive Brown इंटीरियर थीम का विकल्प मिलता है। इसमें Dual Pane Panoramic Sunroof और 64-कलर Ambient Mood Lighting भी दी गई है।

 

6 और 7-सीटर दोनों विकल्प

 

Kia Sorento को 6-सीटर और 7-सीटर कॉन्फिगरेशन में पेश किया गया है। पहली रो में 10-Way Power Driver और Co-Passenger Seats, Lumbar Adjustment, Relaxation Power Seats, Driver Seat Ergo Function और Integrated Memory System जैसे फीचर्स दिए गए हैं। Sorento की खासियत यह है कि इसमें पहली रो के अलावा दूसरी रो में भी Ventilated Seats मिलती हैं। सीटों में 3-स्टेप कूलिंग फंक्शन दिया गया है। 6-सीटर मॉडल में दूसरी रो में Captain Seats मिलती हैं, जबकि 7-सीटर मॉडल में 60:40 स्प्लिट रियर सीटें दी गई हैं। दोनों में Slide, Recline और Walk-in फंक्शन मिलता है।

 इसके अलावा 4-Way Power Boss Mode, Wing Type Headrests, तीसरी रो में 50:50 Split-Folding Seats और दूसरी-तीसरी रो के लिए Rear AC Vents दिए गए हैं।

 

Kia Sorento में पहली बार Real-Time Generative AI

 

Kia Sorento का सबसे बड़ा टेक्नोलॉजी अपडेट इसका Kia AI Assistant है। भारत-स्पेक Sorento में यह तकनीक पहली बार वैश्विक स्तर पर पेश की गई है। Kia AI Assistant रियल-टाइम सर्च पर आधारित जानकारी उपलब्ध कराता है। यह सामान्य बातचीत को समझने के साथ Follow-up Questions का जवाब भी दे सकता है। “Hey Kia” Wake Word के जरिए इसे हैंड्स-फ्री इस्तेमाल किया जा सकता है। यह चुनिंदा वाहन फंक्शंस, जैसे Air Conditioning और Windows को भी कंट्रोल कर सकता है।

Kia ने पहली बार भारत में Personalized Display Themes भी पेश किए हैं। Sorento के Cluster और Infotainment सिस्टम में Disney, Marvel और Pixar पर आधारित कुल 9 थीम मिलेंगी। इन थीम के जरिए ग्राहक डैशबोर्ड के रंग, एनिमेशन और स्क्रीन लेआउट को अपनी पसंद के अनुसार बदल सकेंगे। दिसंबर 2026 से Kia Connect Store भी Sorento के लिए शुरू किया जाएगा। इसके जरिए ग्राहक चुनिंदा Feature-on-Demand सेवाओं को खरीद सकेंगे।

Neither of these are small SUVs. However, the Kia Sorento hybrid is longer, wider and taller (and has a larger wheelbase) than the MG Hector Tomahawk PHEV. The Sorento hybrid can be had with 19-inch alloy wheels at the top end, while the Hector Tomahawk PHEV only gets 18-inch wheels. Unlike the Sorento’s strong-hybrid setup, where the battery can only be charged by the internal combustion engine, the battery pack of the Hector Tomahawk PHEV can also be topped up by plugging it into either a DC fast charger or a slower AC charger. The Hector Tomahawk’s plug-in hybrid system allows the car to be driven in pure-electric mode over a distance of up to 115km (claimed), with Kia yet to disclose the Sorento hybrid’s EV-only range. Depending on the state of charge (SoC) of its battery pack, the MG SUV can also be driven using different powertrain modes.

In series-hybrid mode, the engine charges the battery while the electric motor drives the wheels. Then there’s the parallel-hybrid mode, where the engine and electric motor both power the driven wheels. Finally, the Hector Tomahawk PHEV can also be driven in engine-only mode with no assistance from the electric motor. The Hector Tomahawk PHEV employs a naturally aspirated petrol engine running the Atkinson cycle, plus a relatively high-capacity battery pack and a single electric motor.

Under the bonnet of the India-spec Kia Sorento hybrid sits a punchier 1.6-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine with direct injection, developing 180hp and 265Nm. There’s a compact battery pack and an electric motor whose output is rated at 65hp and 264Nm. Kia is yet to specify the combined output of this hybrid powertrain, alongside its mileage and performance figures. The Hector Tomahawk PHEV gets what MG calls a  “Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT)”, while the Sorento hybrid is equipped with a conventional 6-speed automatic gearbox (AT). Furthermore, the Kia’s fuel tank can carry an additional 13 litres of petrol. The Kia Sorento hybrid gets Eco, Sport and Smart drive modes, along with Snow, Mud and Sand terrain modes. While the Sorento hybrid is available in both front-wheel drive (FWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD) configurations, the Hector Tomahawk PHEV is exclusively FWD.

Even the base-spec trim of the Kia Sorento hybrid costs Rs 3.79 lakh more than the entry-level MG Hector Tomahawk PHEV. On the higher end of the line-up, the Sorento hybrid with all-wheel drive costs a staggering Rs 12.40 lakh more than the fully loaded Hector Tomahawk PHEV (which is front-wheel drive only). While the Hector Tomahawk PHEV has a 7-seat configuration, the Sorento hybrid is also available in a 6-seat format with individual captain seats in the second row. The Kia also offers more power and also has a larger physical footprint. However, if you want the flexibility offered by a plug-in hybrid system and a long list of standard equipment at a lower asking price, then the MG Hector Tomahawk PHEV could be the right three-row mass-market hybrid SUV for you.

जंतर-मंतर पर प्रदर्शन के दौरान छात्र कार्यकर्ता निशु आजाद के पिता के साथ कथित मारपीट के आरोपी स्वतंत्र भारद्वाज को बुलंद शहर से हिरासत में लिया गया है। स्वतंत्र की गिरफ्तारी के लिए कॉकरोच जनता पार्टी (CJP) के प्रतिनिधियों ने प्रदर्शन कर किया था। शुक्रवार को CJP के प्रतिनिधिमंडल ने संसद मार्ग पुलिस थाने पहुंचकर मामले में सख्त कार्रवाई की मांग की। प्रतिनिधिमंडल में पार्टी के प्रवक्ता सौरव दास और आशुतोष रांका भी शामिल थे।

क्या था पूरा मामला

खुद को 'हिन्दुत्व एक्टिविस्ट' बताने वाले स्वतंत्र भारद्वाज पर आरोप है कि उन्होंने CJP के प्रदर्शन के दौरान निशु आजाद के पिता संजय कुमार के साथ मारपीट की थी। वायरल वीडियो क्लिप में भारद्वाज कथित तौर पर यह कहते नजर आए कि उन्होंने प्रदर्शन के दौरान संजय कुमार की 'खोपड़ी फोड़ दी थी' और कथित घटना की गंभीरता के बावजूद जेल जाने से बच गए। CJP ने उस प्रदर्शन का आयोजन किया था, जिसके दौरान कथित मारपीट की घटना हुई थी। संगठन लगातार स्वतंत्र भारद्वाज की गिरफ्तारी की मांग कर रहा है। CJP का आरोप है कि दिल्ली पुलिस ने उनके खिलाफ पर्याप्त कार्रवाई नहीं की।

दिल्ली पुलिस ने खोपड़ी में फ्रैक्चर के दावे को नकारा

विवाद उस समय और बढ़ गया जब गुरुवार को दिल्ली पुलिस ने कहा कि 38 वर्षीय संजय कुमार को झड़प के दौरान सिर में साधारण चोट लगी थी। पुलिस ने उन दावों को खारिज किया, जिनमें कहा गया था कि संजय कुमार की खोपड़ी में फ्रैक्चर हुआ है।  पुलिस के मुताबिक स्वतंत्र भारद्वाज और एक अन्य आरोपी सूरज कुमार को घटनास्थल पर हिरासत में लिया गया था। दोनों से पूछताछ की गई और उन्हें नोटिस भी जारी किए गए। दिल्ली पुलिस ने यह भी कहा है कि मामले में जांच पूरी होने के बाद चार्जशीट दाखिल की जाएगी।

 

 

कौन हैं स्वतंत्र भारद्वाज?

स्वतंत्र भारद्वाज एक सोशल मीडिया इन्फ्लुएंसर हैं। उन पर जंतर-मंतर पर हुए एक प्रदर्शन के दौरान निशु आजाद के पिता संजय के साथ मारपीट करने का आरोप लगाया गया है। यह मामला उस समय फिर चर्चा में आ गया जब भारद्वाज से जुड़े एक पॉडकास्ट की क्लिप सोशल मीडिया पर वायरल हुई।

 

हालांकि, स्वतंत्र भारद्वाज ने संजय पर हमला करने के आरोप से इनकार किया है। उनका कहना है कि उन्होंने आत्मरक्षा में प्रतिक्रिया दी थी। भारद्वाज के मुताबिक, उन्हें करीब 10-15 लोगों ने घेर लिया था और उन्हें डर था कि उनके साथ मारपीट या उनकी हत्या तक की जा सकती है। उन्होंने वायरल पॉडकास्ट क्लिप को भी कथित तौर पर गलत तरीके से पेश किए जाने का दावा किया और कहा कि उनकी राजनीतिक संबद्धता को लेकर लोगों ने उस क्लिप को मजाक या व्यंग्य के तौर पर बनाया था।

निशु आजाद ने क्या आरोप लगाए?

निशु आजाद ने भारद्वाज के दावों को खारिज करते हुए आरोप लगाया कि आरोपी और उसके समर्थकों ने उन्हें परेशान किया और दुष्कर्म की धमकियां भी दीं। निशु के अनुसार, इन धमकियों को लेकर उन्होंने अलग से FIR भी दर्ज कराई है। आशुतोष रांका ने आरोप लगाया कि जंतर-मंतर प्रदर्शन के दौरान संजय के साथ गंभीर मारपीट हुई थी। उन्होंने सवाल उठाया कि आरोपी अब तक बाहर क्यों है और पुलिस से मामले में कड़ी कार्रवाई की मांग की।

पुलिस ने यह भी स्पष्ट किया कि सोशल मीडिया पर संजय की खोपड़ी में फ्रैक्चर होने की बात को लेकर गलत सूचना फैलाई गई थी। पुलिस के अनुसार, संसद मार्ग थाने में मामला दर्ज किया जा चुका है और आरोपी से पूछताछ भी की गई है। दिल्ली पुलिस ने कहा कि जांच और कानूनी प्रक्रिया के तहत आरोपी को अभी कुछ नोटिस दिए जाने बाकी हैं।  जांच पूरी होने के बाद सक्षम अदालत में चार्जशीट दाखिल करने समेत आगे की कानूनी कार्रवाई की जाएगी।

किआ ने भारतीय बाजार में अपनी प्रीमियम SUV Kia Sorento को लॉन्च कर दिया है। इसकी शुरुआती एक्स-शोरूम कीमत ₹27.99 लाख रखी गई है। कंपनी इस SUV को आंध्र प्रदेश के अनंतपुर स्थित अपने मैन्युफैक्चरिंग प्लांट में स्थानीय स्तर पर असेंबल कर रही है। Kia Sorento को भारत में 6-सीटर और 7-सीटर दोनों कॉन्फिगरेशन में पेश किया गया है।

 

हाइब्रिड और डीजल इंजन का विकल्प

Kia Sorento में भारतीय ग्राहकों को दो पावरट्रेन विकल्प मिलेंगे। इसमें पहला 1.6-लीटर टर्बो पेट्रोल स्ट्रॉन्ग हाइब्रिड इंजन है, जबकि दूसरा 2.2-लीटर डीजल इंजन है। दोनों इंजन विकल्पों के साथ ग्राहक फ्रंट-व्हील ड्राइव (FWD) और ऑल-व्हील ड्राइव (AWD) का विकल्प चुन सकते हैं।

 

हाइब्रिड सेटअप में पेट्रोल इंजन 180 bhp की पावर और 265 Nm का टॉर्क जनरेट करता है। इसके साथ इलेक्ट्रिक मोटर 65 bhp और 264 Nm का टॉर्क देती है। यह सिस्टम 6-स्पीड ऑटोमैटिक गियरबॉक्स से जुड़ा है। वहीं, 2.2-लीटर डीजल इंजन 193 bhp की पावर और 442 Nm का टॉर्क देता है। इसे 8-स्पीड डुअल-क्लच ऑटोमैटिक ट्रांसमिशन के साथ जोड़ा गया है।

 

दमदार और प्रीमियम डिजाइन

 

Kia Sorento को कंपनी की लेटेस्ट डिजाइन लैंग्वेज के अनुसार तैयार किया गया है। इसके फ्रंट में Kia की पहचान वाली बड़ी Tiger Nose ग्रिल दी गई है। ग्रिल पर क्रोम सराउंड और हनीकॉम्ब पैटर्न मिलता है। SUV में वर्टिकली अरेंज्ड LED हेडलैंप दिए गए हैं, जिनके साथ Y-शेप LED DRLs मिलते हैं। फ्रंट बंपर में बड़े एयर इनटेक, LED फॉग लैंप और सिल्वर फिनिश वाला स्किड-प्लेट जैसा एलिमेंट दिया गया है।

 

साइड प्रोफाइल में SUV को लंबा और सीधा सिल्हूट दिया गया है। इसमें 19-इंच डुअल-टोन अलॉय व्हील्स, व्हील आर्च पर ब्लैक क्लैडिंग, रूफ रेल्स और क्रोम विंडो सराउंड मिलते हैं।

 

पीछे की तरफ L-शेप LED टेल-लैंप दिए गए हैं, जो SUV के साइड हिस्से तक फैले हुए हैं। टेलगेट के बीच में Kia की ब्रांडिंग है, जबकि नीचे डुअल एग्जॉस्ट आउटलेट और सिल्वर फिनिश वाला स्किड-प्लेट एलिमेंट दिया गया है।

 

इंटीरियर में मिलेंगी प्रीमियम सुविधाएं

 

Sorento के केबिन को ग्रे-ब्लैक और बेज-ब्लैक कलर थीम में पेश किया गया है। डैशबोर्ड पर दो बड़े 12.3-इंच डिस्प्ले दिए गए हैं। इनमें से एक डिजिटल इंस्ट्रूमेंट क्लस्टर और दूसरा इंफोटेनमेंट सिस्टम के लिए है। किआ ने इंटरफेस को पर्सनलाइज करने के लिए Marvel, Disney और Pixar आधारित 9 डिस्प्ले थीम भी दिए हैं।

 

क्लाइमेट कंट्रोल के लिए अलग 5-इंच स्क्रीन नहीं दी गई है। इसके बजाय इंफोटेनमेंट स्क्रीन के नीचे टच-सेंसिटिव पैनल दिया गया है, जिसमें रोटरी कंट्रोल और क्लाइमेट व मीडिया के बीच स्विच करने की सुविधा मिलती है।

 

6 और 7 सीट का विकल्प

 

Kia Sorento को ग्राहक अपनी जरूरत के हिसाब से 6 या 7 सीट के साथ चुन सकेंगे। 6-सीटर मॉडल में दूसरी रो में कैप्टन सीट्स दी गई हैं, जबकि 7-सीटर वर्जन में बेंच सीट मिलती है। फ्रंट सीटों में 10-वे पावर एडजस्टमेंट, वेंटिलेशन और लंबर सपोर्ट दिया गया है। को-ड्राइवर सीट में 'बॉस मोड' मिलता है, जिससे पीछे बैठे यात्रियों के लिए ज्यादा लेगरूम बनाया जा सकता है। दूसरी रो की सीटों को इलेक्ट्रिकली फोल्ड किया जा सकता है। 6-सीटर मॉडल में दूसरी रो की कैप्टन सीटों के लिए वेंटिलेशन की सुविधा भी मिलती है।

In a bid to join the flex–fuel race in India, Kia has unveiled the Syros FFV concept, its first flex-fuel car in India. The carmaker says that the Syros flex-fuel can run on pure petrol, pure ethanol, and varying ethanol-petrol blends. Kia is yet to confirm when a production-spec version will come to our market.

Kia Syros flex-fuel concept: Powertrain details

Powering the Syros flex-fuel is a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder, direct-injection turbo-petrol engine. However, the carmaker has not confirmed the power outputs of this engine. For compatibility with varying ethanol blends, Kia has tweaked components like its ECU, TCU, and fuel system. Unlike the standard Syros turbo-petrol that’s paired to a 7-speed DCT, the Syros flex fuel is mated with a 6-speed torque converter automatic.

Apart from E85 compatibility, the Syros flex-fuel’s exterior remains unchanged from the standard model. You continue to get the familiar boxy, ‘tall-boy’ silhouette, ice-cube LED headlamps with DRLs, 17-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, roof rails, dual-tone bumpers, and high-mounted L-shaped LED signatures at the back.

Like the exterior, the interior of the Syros flex-fuel is quite similar to the standard model. The dashboard is dominated by a triple-screen display for the digital instrument cluster, infotainment system, and HVAC controls, while you get an array of physical buttons at the centre. Lower down is a wireless phone charger, the same gear lever, and storage spaces as seen on the standard Syros.

With the debut, Kia is India’s second manufacturer to debut a flex-fuel car. Earlier this year, Maruti Suzuki was the first to unveil the Wagon R flex fuel, which currently retails at Rs 7.24 lakh. Kia joins the list of carmakers who are working on bringing flex fuel cars to India, as the government pushes for higher ethanol-blended petrol in an effort to reduce crude oil imports.

Kia has officially announced specifications for the CNG-powered Carens and Carens Clavis MPVs on the sidelines of the Sorento launch. Both MPVs will be available with a factory-fitted CNG kit with the 1.5-litre, naturally aspirated engine, and will be offered with a 60-litre CNG tank positioned in the boot. Kia has long expressed its intent to enter India’s growing CNG segment, and this officially marks their entry into this space. So far, the Carens was offered with a CNG kit, but as a dealer-level fitment. Prices for the Carens and Carens Clavis with factory-fitted CNG kit can be expected to be announced in the coming weeks. 

In CNG spec, the 1.5-litre, four-cylinder engine will produce 93hp and 123Nm of torque – that’s 22hp and 21Nm less than the petrol-powered counterpart. Kia hasn’t revealed a fuel-efficiency figure yet, but says the engine has been calibrated to not compromise on performance. Kia has also retuned the suspension and upgraded the front disc brakes to account for the additional tank weight. Kia has also managed to retain the spare wheel positioned under the car.

At its 2026 CEO Investor Day, Hyundai revealed plans to debut its made-in-India compact electric SUV by March 2027. However, Tarun Garg, Managing Director and CEO of Hyundai Motor India, in an interaction with our sister publication Autocar Professional, confirmed the EV will debut earlier than that, by the end of 2026. Garg also said that the EV will initially use battery cells from Svolt, before moving to its original plan to source them from Exide. 

  1. To be built on the E-GMP (K) platform that underpins the Inster EV
  2. Will rival the Tata Nexon EV, Mahindra XUV 3XO EV and Kia Syros EV

Hyundai has also revealed it expects EVs to account for more than 7 percent of its domestic sales within the next year. In FY26 (April 2025 to March 2026), EVs accounted for a 1 percent share of total Hyundai sales in the country, a figure similar to FY25 (April 2024 to March 2025).

Upcoming Hyundai compact EV: More details

Svolt to supply battery cells initially, after Exide flagged production delays earlier

The upcoming compact EV will initially use Svolt battery cells. “We are already ready with the new EV using Svolt cells. Otherwise, the programme could have been delayed, and we did not want to delay the vehicle,” Garg said to Autocar Professional. However, Hyundai subsequently plans to source locally produced cells through its association with Exide, as was originally planned. Notably, Exide revealed in August 2026 that battery production is delayed and that they would not be able to supply components by FY27 (by March 2027). 

Will be underpinned by the Inster’s E-GMP (K) platform

The upcoming compact EV, codenamed HE1i, will be underpinned by the E-GMP (K) platform, also used by the internationally available Inster EV. It will be offered in two versions: standard range and long range, but exact specifications are under wraps. For context, the Inster EV is also available in standard and long-range versions, with 42kWh and 45kWh batteries, respectively, offering a WLTP-claimed range of up to 355km.

Hyundai has also confirmed that the new compact EV will get a ‘next-generation infotainment system’, which could be the Pleos Connect infotainment system seen on several new-age Hyundai models now, and a ‘Level 2 assisted driving technology’. It will be manufactured at Hyundai’s Sriperumbudur facility in Tamil Nadu. Upon launch, it will lock horns with the Tata Nexon EV, Mahindra XUV 3XO EV and Kia Syros EV.

Hyundai’s Grand i10 Nios is being offered with up to Rs 70,000 in benefits. Its most affordable model in India is offered solely with a 1.2-litre petrol engine paired to either a manual or AMT gearbox. A factory-fit dual-cylinder CNG kit can be fitted to this engine and is paired exclusively with a manual gearbox. The Grand i10 is priced between Rs 5.59 lakh to Rs 8.04 lakh and is Hyundai’s answer to the Maruti Swift and the Tata Tiago.

Hyundai i20 offers in September 2026 

Benefits of up to Rs 60,000

The Grand i10’s elder sibling, the i20, is being offered with benefits of up to Rs 60,000. Standard versions of the i20 come powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine mated with either a manual or CVT automatic gearbox. The i20 is priced from Rs 5.99 lakh to Rs 11.59 lakh, and it competes with the Maruti Baleno, Tata Altroz, and the Toyota Glanza.

Hyundai Exter offers in September 2026

Benefits of up to Rs 50,000

Hyundai is offering benefits of up to Rs 50,000 on the Exter. The subcompact SUV was updated earlier this year with refreshed looks and feature additions. It is powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine and is mated with either a manual or AMT gearbox. Like the Grand i10, it also gets a CNG kit fitted to this engine. The Exter’s price begins at Rs 5.8 lakh and goes all the way up to Rs 9.46 lakh. It takes on the likes of the Tata Punch.

The Aura compact sedan is available with benefits of up to Rs 30,000. The Aura shares the same petrol engine as the Grand i10 Nios and the Exter, along with a CNG version on offer. India’s passenger vehicle market remained on a strong growth path in August 2026, with most carmakers reporting higher domestic wholesales compared with the same month last year. Maruti Suzuki retained the top spot, while Tata Motors remained ahead of Mahindra for second place. Hyundai held fourth position, while Kia overtakes Toyota for the fifth spot.

Sales: 1,76,971 units. Change: 34.8 percent YoY

Maruti Suzuki retained its position as India’s largest carmaker in August, with domestic passenger vehicle sales rising 34.8 percent year on year. Utility vehicless, including the Brezza, Ertiga, e Vitara, Fronx, Grand Vitara, Invicto, Jimny, Victoris and XL6, accounted for 79,045 units, while compact and mid-size segment, led by the Baleno, Swift, Dzire and WagonR, contributed 77,166 units. The mini segment, comprising the Alto and S-Presso, added 8,799 units, while the Eeco contributed 11,961 units.

The carmaker also crossed one million total sales in the first five months of FY2026-27. Its total August sales, including exports and sales to other OEMs, stood at 2,19,220 units.

Tata Motors

Sales: 67,753 units. Change: 56 percent YoY

Tata Motors retained second place with 67,753 domestic passenger vehicle sales in August, up 56 percent from the same month last year. Electric vehicle sales, including domestic and international volumes, stood at 16,549 units, almost doubling from 8,540 units in August 2025. Tata also announced a price hike across its passenger vehicle range from September 1.

Mahindra

Sales: 59,257 units. Change: 50 percent YoY

Mahindra remained in third place, recording domestic SUV sales of 59,257 units in August, a 50 percent increase over the 39,399 units sold in August 2025. Its overall vehicle sales, including exports, stood at 1,07,648 units, up 42 percent year on year.

During the month, Mahindra launched the updated Scorpio-N and BE 6 SporteQ, and also introduced its Battery-as-a-Service option for the XEV 9e and XEV 9S.

Hyundai

Sales: 54,396 units. Change: 23.6 percent YoY

Hyundai recorded 54,396 domestic sales in August, up 23.6 percent year on year. The company said this was its highest-ever domestic sales figure for an August. Hyundai has introduced an assured buyback programme for the Creta Electric, while the carmaker is also set to increase prices from this September 2026.

Kia

Sales: 29,042 units, Change: 48.1 percent YoY

Kia recorded 29,042 units in August, up 48.1 percent from 19,608 units in the same month last year. This was the carmaker’s highest-ever August wholesale volume since entering India. The Seltos and Sonet continued to account for a large share of Kia’s volumes, while the newly launched Syros EV also contributed to the brand’s performance.

Toyota

Sales: 28,410 units, Change: -3 percent YoY

Toyota recorded domestic sales of 28,410 units in August 2026, down 3 percent from 29,302 units in the same month last year. The company remains optimistic about demand during the upcoming festive season, with the Innova Hycross, Urban Cruiser Hyryder and Glanza continuing to drive sales.

JSW MG Motor India

Sales: 7,508 units. Change: 12.3 percent YoY

JSW MG Motor recorded sales of 7,508 units in August, up 14 percent year on year. The company launched the Hector Tomahawk in both EV and PHEV forms during the month. Bookings for both versions are open, while deliveries of the Tomahawk EV are scheduled to begin in September. PHEV test drives and deliveries are scheduled to start in November.

Nissan

Sales: 3,426 units. Change: 147 percent YoY

Nissan recorded domestic wholesale sales of 3,426 units in August, up 147 percent year on year. The company attributed the performance to demand for the Magnite and Gravite, along with the response to the recently launched Tekton. Nissan also began exporting the Tekton to South Africa, Bhutan and Nepal during the month, with the first batch comprising more than 1,300 units.

Renault

Sales: 2,842 units, Change: -5.7 percent YoY

Renault recorded sales of 2,842 units in August 2026, down 5.7 percent from 3,015 units in August 2025. The carmaker’s cumulative domestic wholesales for January-August 2026 stood at 31,979 units, up 47.9 percent from 21,621 units in the same period last year. The company will add another powertrain option to the Triber range with the Triber Turbo, which is scheduled to arrive in late September 2026.

August was a busy month for the Indian car market, bringing several new models ajd variants, as well as updates. The BMW X1 LWB and MG Hector Tomahawk EV and PHEV were among the fresh launches, while the Mahindra Scorpio N received a mid-lifecycle update. The Mahindra BE 6 gained the ‘Sporteq’ suffix, while three existing models added new trims: the Range Rover SV Ultra, BYD Sealion 7 Dynamic and Skoda Kylaq Sportline. After such a packed August, September is also set to see more car launches.

Kia Sorento

Launch: September 4

The Kia Sorento will be the brand’s new flagship ICE model in India, and it will be offered with both strong-hybrid and diesel powertrains. The 1.6-litre strong-hybrid version will produce 238hp and 380Nm, while the 2-litre diesel will make 202hp and 441Nm.

The Sorento gets Kia’s signature Tiger Nose grille, large vertical LED headlights with Y-shaped LED daytime running lamps (DRLs), LED fog lamps and vertical aero vents at the edges. Kia has not revealed the alloy wheel size yet, but they are likely to be 19-inch units. At the rear, the Sorento gets squarish tail-lamps with an inverted L-shaped LED signature, a large roof spoiler and a two-tone bumper.

Inside, there is a connected panel housing the infotainment and instrument cluster screens. Kia has not revealed their sizes, but both are likely to be 12.3-inch units. Other features seen in the official images include ADAS, ventilated front seats, a digital interior rearview mirror (IRVM), an electrically operated tailgate, dual-zone climate control, ambient lighting and a panoramic sunroof.

The Sorento is expected to be available in both 6- and 7-seat layouts. Kia has already started accepting bookings for the Sorento and upon launch, it will compete with the Skoda Kodiaq, Volkswagen Tayron and Jeep Meridian.

Previous spy shots of the Baleno facelift have suggested a redesigned front end with a new grille featuring a horizontal bar in the centre connecting the headlights. Test mules have also shown a new bumper without the front fog lamps seen on the current model.

From the side, the only expected change is a new alloy wheel design. At the rear, the facelift could get a redesigned bumper, while the tail-lights are likely to remain unchanged. Inside, the Baleno could retain the current 9-inch touchscreen; however, update the upholstery and add new features.

Under the hood, the facelifted Baleno is expected to continue with the existing powertrain options. These include a 90hp 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with 5-speed manual and 5-speed AMT choices, along with a 77.5hp CNG version available only with the manual gearbox. It will continue to rival the Tata Altroz, Hyundai i20 and Toyota Glanza.

BMW 7 Series, i7 facelifts

Launch: September 11

BMW opened bookings for the facelifted 7 Series and i7 flagship sedans on August 1, soon after their global debut earlier this year. In India, the company currently sells the 740i petrol and 740d diesel versions of the 7 Series, along with the eDrive 50 and M70 xDrive variants of the all-electric i7. These versions get several updates with the facelift, although BMW is yet to confirm which variants will be introduced in here.

BMW 7 Series facelift

In international markets, the facelifted 740i and 740d continue with their 3.0-litre straight-six engines, but with uprated outputs. The 740i makes 400hp and 580Nm, up by 19hp and 60Nm, while the 740d develops 313hp and 670Nm, an increase of 27hp and 20Nm. Both continue to use 48V mild-hybrid systems, 8-speed automatic gearboxes and BMW’s xDrive all-wheel-drive system. The i7 also gets a larger 112.4kWh battery in both variants, up from 101.7kWh. The lower 50 trim now comes only with xDrive all-wheel drive instead of rear-wheel drive and produces 455hp and 660Nm, up by 6hp and 10Nm. The M70 xDrive now makes 680hp and 1,100Nm, gaining 30hp and 85Nm. Charging speeds have also improved. 

Visually, the updated 7 Series and i7 have a more monolithic look. They get new split LED headlights, slimmer and more upright kidney grilles with an illuminated surround, and larger bumper air intakes. The side profile remains largely unchanged apart from the side skirts and alloy wheels, while the rear gets new wraparound LED tail-lamps, a redesigned tailgate and a revised bumper.

Inside, BMW has redesigned the dashboard around a 17.9-inch infotainment touchscreen, a 14.6-inch passenger display and a pillar-to-pillar Panoramic Vision display at the base of the windscreen. The steering wheel is now a four-spoke unit, similar to those used in BMW’s Neue Klasse models, while the centre console and transmission tunnel have also been updated.

Rear passengers get powered seats with heating, ventilation, massage and lumbar support. The 31.3-inch 8K Theatre Screen can now be operated by touch, while the rear-door displays have also been updated to control the rear-seat experience. Other key features include ambient lighting, a Bowers & Wilkins surround sound system and 4-zone climate control. The BMW luxury sedan competes directly with the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, which also received a facelift this year.

Porsche Cayenne Electric

Debut: September 30

Porsche announced prices for the Cayenne Electric in November last year, and the SUV is now set for its physical showcase. The standard Cayenne Electric is priced at Rs 1.77 crore, while the range-topping Turbo Electric costs Rs 2.27 crore (both ex-showroom).

Both trims of the Porsche Cayenne Electric get a 113kWh battery and a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup as standard. The more powerful Turbo Electric produces 1,156hp and 1,500Nm with Launch Control, allowing it to sprint from 0-100kph in 2.5 seconds before reaching an electronically limited top speed of 260kph. It has a claimed WLTP range of 537km. Whereas, the standard Cayenne Electric makes 442hp and 835Nm with Launch Control, does 0-100kph in 4.8 seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 230kph. Its claimed WLTP range stands at 542km.

The Cayenne Electric keeps a similar overall shape to the ICE-powered Cayenne. However, the EV gets a closed-off grille, with two air vents on either side of the bumper to cool the battery and electrical components. These vents are larger on the Turbo trim. At the rear, there is a full-width LED light bar with illuminated Porsche lettering. The bumper has also been redesigned with horizontal black elements.

Other features include 8-way electrically adjustable front seats, four-zone automatic climate control, ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof and wireless phone charging.
