क्या आप नई इलेक्ट्रिक SUV लेने का प्लान बना रहे हैं? अगर हां, तो इस खबर को आपको जरूर पढ़ना चाहिए। दरअसल, Mahindra & Mahindra ने आज BE 6 Sporteq को भारत में लॉन्च कर दिया है। यह कंपनी की BE 6 इलेक्ट्रिक SUV पर आधारित नई सीरीज है। इसकी शुरुआती कीमत 19.45 लाख रुपये (एक्स-शोरूम) है और इसमें बैटरी की कीमत भी शामिल है।

कंपनी ने इसे Battery as a Service (BaaS) मॉडल के साथ भी पेश किया है। इस मॉडल में BE 6 Sporteq की शुरुआती कीमत 11.45 लाख रुपये (एक्स-शोरूम) है। इसके अलावा बैटरी इस्तेमाल करने के लिए 3.75 रुपये प्रति किलोमीटर का चार्ज देना होगा।

BaaS मॉडल में 3.75 रुपये प्रति किलोमीटर का बैटरी चार्ज रोजाना करीब 60 किलोमीटर की ड्राइविंग को ध्यान में रखकर तय किया गया है। बता दें कि BE 6 Sporteq की डिलीवरी 26 अगस्त 2026 से शुरू होगी।

इस नई सीरीज को आप 8 वेरिएंट में खरीद सकते हैं — One, Two, Three, Three+, Four, FE (फ्रीडम एडिशन), FE Four और लॉन्च एडिशन। ग्राहक अपनी जरूरत और वेरिएंट के हिसाब से 59kWh, 70kWh और 79kWh बैटरी पैक में से चुन सकते हैं।

Mahindra BE 6 Sporteq की कीमतें

59 kWh बैटरी वाले BE 6 Sporteq One ​​की कीमत BaaS के तहत ₹11.45 लाख और बैटरी के साथ ₹19.45 लाख है। Two वेरिएंट की कीमत BaaS के तहत ₹12.95 लाख और 59 kWh बैटरी के साथ ₹20.95 लाख है।

Three वेरिएंट की कीमत 59 kWh बैटरी के साथ ₹21.95 लाख और 70 kWh यूनिट के साथ ₹22.95 लाख है। वहीं, Three+ की कीमत 70 kWh बैटरी के साथ ₹23.95 लाख और 79 kWh बैटरी के साथ ₹24.95 लाख है।

इसके अलावा, Four और ‘लॉन्च एडिशन’ (Launch Edition), दोनों ही 79 kWh बैटरी के साथ आते हैं और इनकी कीमत 26.95 लाख रुपये है। FE की कीमत 24.45 लाख रुपये है, जबकि FE फोर की कीमत 26.95 लाख रुपये है। फॉर्मूला E से प्रेरित इन दोनों ही वेरिएंट्स में 79 kWh की बैटरी का इस्तेमाल किया गया है।

ये सभी कीमतें एक्स-शोरूम हैं और इनमें वॉल चार्जर और उसके इंस्टॉलेशन का खर्च शामिल नहीं है।

तीन-स्क्रीन वाला डिजिटल कॉकपिट

Mahindra ने BE 6 Sporteq सीरीज को 12 एक्सटीरियर कलर ऑप्शन में पेश किया है। इनमें चार नए कलर भी शामिल हैं—Rosso Impulso, Ruby Velvet, Graphite Storm और Firestorm Orange Satin।

Two वेरिएंट से आगे के सभी मॉडल में तीन-स्क्रीन वाला कोस्ट-टू-कोस्ट डिजिटल कॉकपिट दिया गया है। हालांकि, Formula E से प्रेरित Freedom Edition खरीदने वाले ग्राहकों को पहले वाला दो-स्क्रीन कॉकपिट और खास ‘हेलो डिजाइन’ मिलेगा।

Sporteq रेंज में छह नए टेक्नोलॉजी सुइट्स भी पेश किए गए हैं — TEQ_Talk, TEQ_Play, TEQ_Drive, TEQ_Me, TEQ_Secure और TEQ_xting। ये सभी MAIA (महिंद्रा का आर्टिफिशियल इंटेलिजेंस आर्किटेक्चर) पर आधारित हैं, जो कंपनी की ‘सॉफ्टवेयर-डिफाइंड व्हीकल’ स्ट्रैटेजी का आधार है।

Google Gemini-पावर्ड वॉइस असिस्टेंट

TEQ_Talk को Google Gemini के साथ बनाया गया है और इसमें 17 खास AI एजेंट का इस्तेमाल किया गया है। Mahindra के अनुसार, यह सिस्टम 100 से ज्यादा मुख्य फंक्शन और 48 एप्लीकेशन को सपोर्ट करता है, जिनमें गाड़ी के कंट्रोल, नेविगेशन, म्यूजिक और न्यूज शामिल हैं।

TEQ_Play में एंटरटेनमेंट फीचर जैसे कि कराओके, ‘ब्रिंग-योर-ओन-डिवाइस’ (BYOD) मोड वाला इन-कार गेमिंग सुइट, प्राइवेट ऑडियो, Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos और GrooveMe Party शामिल हैं। Mahindra का दावा है कि भारत में ऑटोमोटिव बनाने वाली कंपनियों में कराओके फ़ीचर और BYOD मोड में गेमिंग की सुविधा सबसे पहले इसी में दी गई है।

TEQ_Drive में परफॉर्मेंस से जुड़े फंक्शन जैसे कस्टम ड्राइव मोड, ड्रिफ़्ट मोड, ट्राइब ड्राइव, रिवाइव और रिवाइव SOS शामिल हैं। Formula E Freedom Edition में एक अतिरिक्त ‘एक्सेलरेशन बूस्ट’ फंक्शन भी मिलता है।

TEQ_Me में ऑटोमैटिक डिटेक्शन वाले यूजर प्रोफाइल की सुविधा है, जबकि TEQ_xting मालिकों को टेलगेट के लिए पर्सनलाइज्ड मैसेज बनाने की सुविधा देता है।

TEQ_Secure में Secure360 Pro शामिल है, जो ऑडियो रिले और घुसपैठ की चेतावनी (intrusion alert) के साथ लाइव व्यू देता है। इसमें iPhone, Apple Watch, Android और Samsung स्मार्टफोन के साथ-साथ NFC की-कार्ड के ज़रिए NFC और डिजिटल कार-की का सपोर्ट भी मिलता है।

महिंद्रा का दावा है कि वह पहली भारतीय ऑटोमोटिव कंपनी है जो कई डिवाइस इकोसिस्टम में ‘कार कनेक्टिविटी कंसोर्टियम’ (CCC) के नियमों के मुताबिक Digital Car-Key फंक्शनैलिटी देती है। इस सुइट में तीसरी स्क्रीन के लिए पैरेंटल लॉक भी शामिल है।.

मौजूदा महिंद्रा इलेक्ट्रिक SUV में अपडेट्स आएंगे

महिंद्रा ने कहा कि Sporteq सीरीज के साथ पेश की गई सभी नई टेक्नोलॉजी और सॉफ्टवेयर फीचर्स को मौजूदा BE 6, XEV 9e और XEV 9S गाड़ियों में धीरे-धीरे लाया जाएगा, हालांकि उपलब्ध फीचर्स मॉडल और वैरिएंट के हिसाब से अलग-अलग होंगे। यह रोलआउट जनवरी 2027 से चरणों में शुरू होगा।

लॉन्च एडिशन और फॉर्मूला E फ्रीडम एडिशन

रेंज के टॉप मॉडल के तौर पर BE 6 Sporteq Launch Edition को खास Graphite Storm एक्सटीरियर फिनिश के साथ पेश किया गया है। इसके केबिन में Racing Tan कलर की पूरी लेदर जैसी फिनिश वाली सीटें और इंटीरियर दिया गया है।

वहीं, Formula E Freedom Edition का डिजाइन Mahindra Racing के Formula E रेसिंग प्रोग्राम से प्रेरित है। इसमें BE 6 के पुराने हेडलैंप डिजाइन को बरकरार रखा गया है। इसके अलावा, कार में तिरंगे वाले एक्सटीरियर एक्सेंट, सैटिन पेंट ऑप्शन और नया Rosso Impulso कलर मिलता है।

इसके केबिन में Black और Firestorm Orange थीम दी गई है। साथ ही इसमें दो-स्क्रीन डिजिटल कॉकपिट और कंपनी का खास Halo डिजाइन मिलता है।

Acceleration Boost फीचर की मदद से Formula E Freedom Edition महज 6.44 सेकंड में 0 से 100 किमी/घंटा की रफ्तार पकड़ सकती है। यह कंपनी द्वारा बताया गया दावा किया गया आंकड़ा है।

भारत में Moto G Max की कीमत 27,999 रुपये रखी गई है। यह कीमत फोन के 6GB RAM और 128GB स्टोरेज वाले वेरिएंट की है। हालांकि, खरीदारों को 1,000 रुपये का इंस्टेंट बैंक डिस्काउंट भी मिल सकता है, जिसके बाद फोन की प्रभावी कीमत 26,999 रुपये रह जाएगी।

बता दें कि यह फोन 20 अगस्त से Flipkart, Motorola की वेबसाइट और प्रमुख रिटेल स्टोर पर उपलब्ध होगा।

Moto G Max के स्पेसिफिकेशन्स

इस स्मार्टफोन में 6.72-इंच का Full HD+ LCD डिस्प्ले है, जो 120Hz रिफ्रेश रेट, 1050 निट्स तक की ब्राइटनेस, डिस्प्ले कलर बूस्ट और वॉटर टच टेक्नोलॉजी को सपोर्ट करता है। डिवाइस में IP64 वॉटर रेजिस्टेंस और Corning Gorilla Glass 7i भी दिया गया है।

इसके अलावा, यह फोन Qualcomm Snapdragon 6s Gen 4 चिपसेट पर चलता है, जिसमें 6GB LPDDR5X RAM और 128GB UFS 3.1 स्टोरेज दी गई है। Motorola के RAM बूस्ट फीचर से RAM को वर्चुअली 18GB तक बढ़ाया जा सकता है।

अगले महीने Moto Pad 70 की भारत में होगी एंट्री, मिलेगा 10,200mAh की बैटरी, जानें कीमत और स्पेसिफिकेशन्स

Moto Pad 70 अगले महीने भारत में लॉन्च होने के लिए तैयार है और इसे Flipkart के जरिए खरीदा जा सकेगा। आधिकारिक लॉन्च से पहले, Flipkart पर इसके लिए एक खास माइक्रोसाइट लाइव भी हो गई है, जिसमें इस Android टैबलेट के कई फीचर्स की जानकारी दी गई है। कंपनी ने कन्फर्म किया है कि इसमें 5G कनेक्टिविटी और 12.1-इंच का डिस्प्ले मिलेगा। इसके अलावा, यह टैबलेट MediaTek Dimensity 6400 चिपसेट से लैस होगा और इसमें 10,200mAh की बड़ी बैटरी दी जाएगी। इसमें Moto Pen भी बंडल के तौर पर मिलेगा।

Flipkart ने अपनी वेबसाइट पर Moto Pad 70 के लिए एक खास लैंडिंग पेज लाइव किया है, जिससे यह पता चलता है कि Moto Pad 70 भारत में 9 अगस्त को लॉन्च होगा। कंपनी के टीजर के मुताबिक, यह 5G टैबलेट 12.1 इंच के बड़े डिस्प्ले के साथ आएगा। इसमें 2.5K रेजोल्यूशन, हाई ब्राइटनेस मोड (HBM) में 800 निट्स की पीक ब्राइटनेस और DCI-P3 कलर गैमट का 96% कवरेज मिलेगा।

While the overall length of the Hyundai Creta Electric is identical to the Tata Sierra EV, the latter boasts 120mm longer wheelbase. The Sierra EV in Empowered trim is offered with 63kWh and 75kWh battery packs. Even with the smaller battery option, the Sierra EV’s claimed range is 56km more than the top-spec Creta Electric’s. Bumping up to the top-spec, rear-wheel drive (RWD) 75kWh version of the Sierra EV means a claimed range of 665km – that’s 155km more than the top-spec Creta Electric.

The smaller battery size and a slightly faster AC charging speed means that the Creta Electric can be charged from 10-100 percent in 7 hours and 15 minutes, which is over 3 hours less than what the Sierra EV with the 75kWh battery pack requires. Meanwhile, the Sierra EV with the 63kWh battery takes under 9 hours to achieve the same SoC (state of charge). Both cars support DC fast charging of over 100kW, with the Sierra EV’s claimed charging time being based on 120kW DC charging.

The Sierra EV’s single electric motor powers its rear wheels, while that of the Creta Electric powers its front. While the punchier 63kWh version of the Tata SUV makes 67hp more than its Hyundai EV rival, even its lower-output 75kWh version makes more power (38hp more than the Creta Electric). The Sierra EV also has the torque advantage, developing 60Nm more than its Hyundai rival. While Tata Motors hasn’t published the claimed 0-100kph time of the mid-spec Sierra EV, it’s likely to be brisk.

We’ve said in the past, the Sierra is the best Tata model on sale currently, representing the best of the brand’s learnings over the years. We’ve also said Tata’s electric powertrains are better than the equivalent combustion engines on offer. So, combine the two, and it’s undoubtedly a winning formula. But with EV tech and customer expectations moving so rapidly these days, is that necessarily a foregone conclusion?

Retains the ICE version’s sharp looks and practicality while incorporating a large battery.

The new Sierra is a bold piece of design, and this has been carried over to – and perhaps even improved – on the electric version. It’s a welcome departure from the notion that all EVs need to be shaped like bars of soap for better aero efficiency. Instead, it is upright and boxy, albeit smoothed out just enough for air to flow over it a bit better.

The difference is up front, where the gloss black surround for the headlamps found in the ICE version has been replaced by a body-coloured panel to give that EV-typical ‘grille-less’ look. For contrast, the gloss black treatment has been applied lower down in the bumper instead. Perhaps the wheels could have been more different – they are the same design as the ICE model, albeit in a matte finish rather than gloss. The badges now say ‘Sierra.ev’ on the sides and rear, and have a blue-coloured outer edge.

To the untrained eye, it might not immediately be apparent which version is which, but conversely, this is unmistakably a Sierra, and that is perhaps more important.

Little practicality has been lost in the move to electric; in fact, some has been gained. Almost as if to drive the point home that, despite the similar looks, this is a pure EV underneath, it gets a frunk that holds 55 litres in the single-motor models, and 35 litres in the dual-motor version. Good enough for the charging cable or small valuables you don’t want to keep in the main boot.

There’s also still 205mm of ground clearance, despite the battery pack, and thanks to its use of prismatic cells and C2P (cell to pack) packaging, it doesn’t weigh or impede on cabin and boot space as much as conventional batteries of similar capacity (like the ones in the Harrier EV).

Superb space and comfort, though quality inconsistencies and ergonomic gaffes remain.

However, while boot space has been retained at a cavernous 622 litres (floor to roof), a casualty of the battery pack is the spare wheel, which was previously mounted under the body. You now only get a puncture repair kit.

There’s seemingly no compromise to space or comfort in the cabin in the move to electric power. Engineers say the floor height has gone up by less than an inch compared to the ICE Sierra, and in truth there is no perceptible difference when you’re sat in the back seat. It remains spacious and comfortable, and even gets a small amount of backrest recline. The awkward L-shaped B-pillar returns, leaving a conspicuous gap next to the sun blind that could have easily been avoided. As before, you get a gigantic sunroof on top-spec trims that lets in a lot of light.

Up front, the lounge-like ambiance remains, with a cream-coloured, leatherette-bound dashboard and a textured fabric surface for the ‘sound bar’ central speaker. The three-screen stack adds a techy vibe to this atmosphere, and between the seats is a pedestal for the drive selector. The front seats are very comfortable and offer a good amount of shoulder support – something often overlooked in seat design.

For every soft surface and attractive trim piece, however, there is visible hard plastic, rough edges, crooked stitching and misaligned panel fit, which are an eyesore, especially at this price. And while the design is attractive, its execution could have been far better considered from a practicality and ergonomics standpoint. For example, the pedestal-mounted drive selector is set at a comfortable height, but wastes the space below it. Consequently, the storage box behind it is narrow, tall and harder to reach, while the cupholders are tiny and forced to the base of the dashboard. And while the inclusion of small umbrella holders in the door cards is a nice touch, there is no drain plug, so surplus water will collect in the door pockets. Good intentions; poor execution.

Packed to the gills with safety and tech, more so even than the ICE version.

Tata in the last few years has caught up to the features freight train that has the Indian car industry in a stranglehold. The Sierra EV is, thus, one of if not the best equipped in its segment, with every conceivable gizmo imaginable on the top-spec Empowered A variant. And as always, the EV gets a small edge on its ICE counterpart, which comes in the form of a powered front passenger seat, as well as an HUD alongside the three-screen layout (instead of either one or the other).

Those front seats are ventilated too, and the driver gets a memory function. There’s a full ADAS suite, drive modes, regen modes and terrain modes, the panoramic sunroof, dual-zone auto climate control, a 12-speaker JBL Black sound system with Dolby Atmos, an onboard air purifier, connected car tech and much, much more. There’s also a clever integration with Google Maps that predicts what the car’s SOC will be when you reach your destination, helping you plan better.

The screens are crisp and smooth in their animations, although as before, the 10.25-inch driver’s display feels a bit too cluttered; the HUD actually provides a cleaner and more focused driver display. And while Tata is not the first brand to do it, the passenger screen feels like a gimmick, more so now that there is a multiplayer gaming suite that lets all passengers connect their phones to the car and play from their own device.

While there hasn’t been a crash test of the EV specifically, the ICE Sierra scored a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating, which should feasibly carry forward to this car too. Apart from an extensive ADAS suite on the top trim, there are 6 airbags as standard, as well as several other safety features.

2026 Tata Sierra EV performance and refinement – 8/10

Dual-motor QWD version brings AWD to the segment and delivers class-best performance.

The Sierra EV can be had in one of three powertrain configurations – a 63kWh battery with a rear motor, a 75kWh battery with a rear motor, or the one we’ve got to test drive – the 75kWh battery with dual motors. This makes the Sierra the first to bring AWD to this segment and is, expectedly, the most potent version, with a class-leading output of 306hp and 504Nm. Despite weighing in at around 2.1 tonnes, the SUV can sprint to 100kph from a standstill in a claimed 5.8sec. However, while it is undoubtedly capable of that, it doesn’t feel neck-snappingly quick off the line. Instead, it is quite undramatic, and frankly that is fine in a family SUV such as this. It’s a smooth and refined powertrain, as we’ve come to expect from Tata Motors’ EVs over the years.

That said, it perhaps feels a bit too similar to older Tata EVs, considering this is a new-generation model. Where newer EVs now have greater responsiveness off the line, this one still has a small dead zone at the start of the pedal travel, after which power comes in abruptly, and this requires care in stop-go traffic. Thereafter, it’s delivered in a constant lump of torque, where others have managed to program in some sort of progression. A minor criticism, and it’s still a far better experience than any ICE powertrain, but the EV game has since moved on.

There are drive modes, though apart from a noticeable dullness in Eco mode, the rest – City, Sport and Boost – don’t feel too different from one another. Similarly, the regen modes – easily accessible using the steering-mounted paddles – don’t feel all that different from one another.

The Sierra EV QWD was rather impressive on the off-road course Tata Motors set up for it, which wasn’t the usual walk in the park, and had some pretty significant obstacles. Put it down to the short overhangs that improve approach and departure angles, or the responsiveness of the e-motors, but the result was surprisingly effortless. We didn’t even need to delve into the terrain modes for the most part, though there were instances where it would fumble shifting torque between the left and right wheels mid obstacle.

Big battery means big numbers, though a real-world test remains.

63kWh and 75kWh are among the bigger batteries offered in this segment, with only the Mahindra BE 6 offering a larger 78kWh unit. The Sierra’s smaller pack is rated at 565km on the MIDC, while the larger at 665km for the single motor and 624km for the dual motor. Tata itself says the MIDC rating won’t be achieved in real-world use, but that the larger battery can deliver upwards of 500km realistically.

When it comes to charging, on a 7.2kW AC charger, the 63kWh pack will take 8.9 hours to get from 10-100 percent, while the 75kWh pack will take 10.5 hours. On a 120kW DC charger, meanwhile, both will do a 20-80 percent top-up in about 26 minutes. At what rate the car actually accepts charge, however, remains to be seen. Tata offers a 15-year warranty on the battery of the Sierra EV, which is reassuring.

No compromise on comfort, despite added weight. Handles amicably too.

Tata SUVs have always been great in the dynamics department, and that continues here too. Despite the 19-inch wheels and the 2.1-tonne kerb weight, the Sierra EV can handle any manner of surface with equal composure and comfort. Put it down to the frequency dependent dampers (FDD) but no pothole is too big, nor surface too broken to upset the SUV.

It holds its line well at high speeds and lane change manoeuvres can be made with confidence and little effort. Similarly, at low speeds, the steering is light without feeling loose, letting you change direction easily even in traffic.

High-speed handling too is also pretty engaging, helped no doubt by its lower centre of gravity, and if you really wanted to, you could lean onto the Sierra EV quite hard. That said, it is a tall, high-riding vehicle, so an acceptable amount of body roll is present. The boxy profile, however, does result in some wind noise around the A-pillars at high speed, made more apparent by the silent powertrain.

Overlaps with Curvv and Harrier, but feels the better EV than either of them.

It’s not much of a surprise that the Sierra EV is the best Tata you can buy right now, as it the latest product of the brand’s strategy of constant evolution and improvement. It’s not without its flaws, of course, but these feel less like huge deal breakers, and more like matters of finesse in manufacturing and calibration that Tata should take the time to address.

Apart from being a great EV, it’s also just a very good family car, offering space, comfort and the features Indian buyers now expect. The bigger problem for Tata could be where it fits between the Curvv and Harrier EVs, because there is some price overlap, and in our opinion, it surpasses them both overall. And while, at Rs 18.79 lakh to Rs 25.99 lakh, it is priced at the upper end of its segment, it does pack in a lot, and sits on par with the BE 6, which doesn’t have an AWD variant. Which of these two is better is a question for another time, but for now, the Sierra EV has the makings of a winner.

New-gen Mercedes-Benz GLB EV confirmed for India

The new-gen GLB EV will be coming to our market, Santosh Iyer, Managing Director and CEO of Mercedes-Benz India, said during the company’s half-yearly sales call. Sitting atop the Mercedes-Benz Modular Architecture (MMA) platform, the GLB EV was revealed globally in December 2025. The compact luxury SUV shares a lot of its general design and feature set with its combustion-powered stablemates, and is already on sale in markets like the UK.

The international-spec Mercedes-Benz GLB EV is available in GLB 250+ and GLB 350 4MATIC variants. The single-motor GLB 250+ develops 272hp and 335Nm, whilst the dual-motor GLB 350 4MATIC variant offers up 353hp and 515Nm. While both variants house an 85kWh lithium-ion battery pack, Mercedes-Benz says that the single-motor variant has a WLTP-claimed range of up to 631km.

The 800V architecture of the new-gen Mercedes GLB EV allows DC fast-charging of up to 320kW, while 260km of range can be added in a claimed 10 minutes. Abroad, the GLB EV is also offered with optional adaptive dampers. While Iyer did not reveal any technical details for a India-spec GLB EV, the German automaker could bring more than just one variant to our market.

The new-gen GLB EV shares a lot of design similarities with its combustion-powered stablemate. While the upright front and rear ends, connected LED lighting and squared wheel arches remain comparable to the ICE-powered GLB, the pure-electric version gets a sealed off grille with multiple illuminated stars. Other design similarities here include the large three-pointed star up front, flush door handles and short overhangs. Inside, the global-spec GLB EV can seat either 5 or 7 occupants.

The global-spec GLB EV is available with the brand’s ‘MBUX Superscreen’, which includes a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, a 14-inch touch-infotainment screen and a front passenger display. The whole setup is powered by the MercedesBenz Operating System (MB.OS), and AI integration includes names such as Microsoft, Google and ChatGPT4o.

There’s over-the-air (OTA) software updates, built-in Google Maps, a panoramic glass roof with opacity control, multi-mood ambient lighting, a Burmester audio system with Dolby Atmos and an advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) suite as well. It remains to be seen which variant of the GLB EV Mercedes-Benz brings to India, as Iyer did not delve into details on this front either.

There’s no word yet from Mercedes India regarding the pricing of the new-gen GLB EV, but the compact luxury SUV is priced between GBP 46,100 and GBP 56,800 in the UK. Once it makes its way to India as a CBU import, the Mercedes GLB EV will likely be priced at around Rs 80 lakh (ex-showroom).

The new back bumper has a more sculpted look than before, but the tailpipes are now hidden from view. Upgrading to one of the M Sport packages gets gloss-black elements alongside a sportier-looking front splitter, roof spoiler and rear diffuser.

The new X5 is longer than the old one – both in terms of its overall length and wheelbase. Where the previous-gen X5 had a maximum boot capacity of 1,850 litres, the new-gen model takes that up to 2,047 litres. On the other hand, the X5 no longer gets the split-folding tailgate mechanism offered in the old model. It has been replaced by a traditional, single unit design.

Inside the new-gen BMW X5 is a new door-to-door wrap-around design featuring metallic trim and new integrated LEDs. On the other hand, the previous-gen model’s interior sported a wedge-shaped, sloping dashboard. Taking centre stage on the dashboard is the uniquely shaped ‘Panoramic iDrive’ display measuring 17.9 inches diagonally – the old X5’s main screen measured up to 14.9 inches. Right next to the primary head unit is an optional 14.6-inch front passenger display, with the other side taken up by a new-designed steering wheel. The traditional instrument cluster of the previous-gen X5 has made way for a strip of smaller screens at the base of the windscreen called ‘Panoramic Vision’.

There are full-width climate control vents on the dashboard, with the centre vents placed below the main touchscreen. Meanwhile, the previous-gen X5 had a curved twin-screen setup and air vents with conventional direction toggles. The rotary drive selector for the iDrive is gone, while the toggle-type mechanism for drive selection has been integrated into a three-section unit on the centre console. Buttons from the dashboard have also been moved down to the centre console. Controls for the hazard lights and electronic parking brake are found here as well, along with a couple more buttons.

The infotainment unit uses the BMW’s new Operating System X software compared to the old car’s previous-gen iDrive software, which also featured the rotary iDrive controller. The X5’s premium audio system now supports Dolby Atmos, while the ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) suite has also been updated. However, the new X5 will continue to be available with a head-up display, ventilated front seats with massaging functions, adaptive air suspension, and a panoramic sunroof. Of course, other safety nannies such as multiple airbags, electronic stability management and surround-view cameras will be offered with the new-gen X5 too.

BMW X5 new vs old: Powertrain options

One of the biggest changes between the old and new BMW X5 is the latter’s compatibility with a variety of powertrain types. Its Neue Klasse platform means the X5 now supports battery electric (BEV) and hydrogen fuel-cell electric (FCEV) options. The latter has been co-developed with Toyota, and in the iX5 Hydrogen, output is a claimed 401hp.

BMW has updated the 3.0-litre inline-six turbo-petrol engine of the 40 and 40 xDrive variants of the X5. While they still get a 48V mild-hybrid system and direct fuel injection, the output has gone up to 394hp and 580Nm. The 8-speed automatic gearbox has been retained, though. The new X5’s plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version carries forward its 3.0-litre petrol engine and electric motor combination – output for the 50e xDrive is rated at 483hp and 700Nm.

Compared to the previous-gen model, the new-gen BMW X5 will be offered in a fully electric avatar. The new iX5 60 xDrive uses an 800V architecture, along with a 144kWh lithium-ion battery pack and two electric motors. The combined output is rated at 570hp and 804Nm, while claimed range is 700km. BMW’s sixth-gen eDrive technology supports charging rates of up to 460kW, which means 10-80 percent charge in a claimed 22 minutes.

Production of the fifth-gen BMW X5 will commence at the brand’s Spartanburg plant in the US in August 2026. The combustion-only variants are set to go on sale in late November 2026, followed by the plug-in hybrid and fully electric versions in early 2027.

The Sierra EV is a significant 267mm shorter than the Harrier EV but 30mm longer than the Curvv EV. It’s not only 31mm wider than the Curvv EV but also a noticeable 113mm taller. Not just that, the Sierra EV is slightly taller than the Harrier EV, too. The Sierra EV has a wheelbase that’s 170mm longer than the Curvv’s but falls short of the Harrier’s by 11mm.

The luggage-carrying capacity of the Harrier EV is more than that of the Sierra EV, owing to its size. While we’re yet to measure it, Tata claims that the Sierra EV’s boot is similar in size to its combustion-powered namesake, where it’s 450 litres. This means that the Sierra EV’s boot is smaller than that of the Curvv EV by 50 litres. The frunk capacity of the Sierra EV and Harrier EV change based on the variant chosen, with the lower ones sporting more capacity. While the Sierra and Harrier can be had with 18- or 19-inch wheels, the Curvv EV is only offered with 18-inch rims.

Both the Sierra and Harrier come in single-motor rear-wheel drive (RWD) and dual-motor all-wheel drive (AWD) versions. The entry-level variant of the Sierra and Harrier have identical outputs, with the torque remaining identical between all variants of these two SUVs. However, the mid-spec and top-spec Sierra’s rear motors make less power than their Harrier counterparts. Meanwhile, the Curvv EV is only offered with one powertrain option.

Since it’s likely less heavy than the larger Harrier, the Sierra EV QWD (Tata’s parlance for AWD) manages to finish the sprint from 0-100kph half-a-second quicker. It’s also 2.8 seconds quicker to 100kph than the single-motor front-wheel drive Curvv EV. The claimed range of the base- and top-spec Sierra EV are comparable to those of the Harrier EV, but the former’s mid-spec 75kWh RWD version has a slight range advantage.

Meanwhile, the Curvv EV’s claimed range is 122km shy of the Sierra EV’s. Both the Sierra and Harrier with the 75kWh battery option can accept DC fast-charging, taking the battery from 20-80 percent in about the same time. When plugged into a 7.2kW AC charger though, the Curvv’s smaller battery can be charged from 10-100 percent in a little over 7 hours. The Sierra EV needs about 1-3 hours extra to do the same, and the Harrier EV take a similar amount of time.

The Sierra EV gets a dedicated 12.3-inch infotainment screen for the front passenger, a JBL Black audio system with the most number of speakers, and a separate route planner meant currently for Android Auto users. It also comes with a new ‘AirConsole’ gaming feature, which syncs the user’s phone with the infotainment screen for playing games. Moreover, it’s only the Sierra EV that can be had with an augmented-reality head-up display (HUD).

The ‘Summon’ mode of the Sierra EV and Harrier EV allows the car to crawl out of parking spots using a key fob, while both models support Dolby Atmos and dual-zone climate control. Features like automatic headlamps & wipers, a driver’s seat with memory & welcome functions, 540-degree cameras, and hill-descent control are found on the Sierra EV as well as the Harrier EV. They also get 6 terrain modes: Normal, Grass/Snow, Mudruts/Gravel, Sand, Rock Crawl and Custom. However, the Harrier EV has 7 airbags and a larger primary touchscreen.

All three EVs come with four levels of regenerative braking, a gesture-activated tailgate, voice-activated panoramic sunroofs, and ventilated front seats. They also get Level 2 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) with adaptive cruise control and auto-emergency braking, plus vehicle-to-load (V2L) and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) functions. The Sierra EV has the most number of features here.

While the top-spec Empowered X trim of the Curvv EV comes closest to the base-spec Sierra EV, the latter is still fairly well-loaded. Moving on to the Sierra EV and Harrier EV, their mid-spec Adventure trims are fairly matched in terms of pricing. At the top end, there’s Rs 3 lakh separating the fully loaded Tata Sierra EV from its equivalent Harrier EV counterpart. Some of the extra cash spent on the Sierra EV goes towards features that are exclusive to it – like the augmented-reality head-up display and dedicated screen for the front passenger. On the other hand, the price difference between the base Sierra EV and Curvv EV is Rs 1.8 lakh, with that gap widening to Rs 6.8 lakh at the top end.
