While Honda unveiled the QC3 for our market, the Japanese marque has also patented a ‘UC3’ in our country. It is a more spacious, cruiser-esque electric scooter that also debuts an LFP chemistry battery for the overseas market.

Honda UC3: What to expect?
Honda unveiled the QC3 for our market.
The biggest headlining point of the UC3 is the battery chemistry that it packs in. While the QC1 and Activa E: come with an Li-ion NMC (Nickel Manganese Cobalt) chemistry battery, the UC3 debuts a Li-ion LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) chemistry battery. Honda claims a maximum range of 122km per charge. It has a claimed 20-80 percent charging time of 5 hours using the slower 450W charger and 2 hours using the faster 1200W charger.
It produces a peak output of 6kW and has a top-speed of 120kph. It rides on 12-inch wheels at both ends. It comes with svelte bodywork with flowing lines. Underneath the seemingly spacious seat is a 26 litre storage capacity.
It comes with three riding modes – Standard, Sport and Econ – to suit riding conditions, along with a reverse mode that can be configured via the 5-inch TFT dash. It has a kerb weight of 129kg and a seat height of 779mm.
It comes with two colours – black and white – with rose gold accents for the black colour. A colourway similar to the brand’s first electric motorcycle – The WN7 – that was unveiled overseas.
Is the UC3 coming to India
A patent filing from Honda does not directly point to an imminent launch, as this could simply be an IPR (Intellectual Property Rights) safeguard, something the brand routinely exercises.
MG has introduced the Hector Tomahawk PHEV as India’s first mass-market plug-in hybrid, with prices ranging from Rs 25.70 lakh to Rs 27.80 lakh (ex-showroom). It combines a 1.5-litre petrol engine with a 20.5kWh battery and electric motor, allowing it to offer electric-only driving as well as the longer range of a petrol engine. But how does the Hector Tomahawk PHEV’s hybrid system work, and how does it differ from the strong-hybrid systems already offered by Maruti Suzuki, Toyota and Honda Let’s take a closer look.
MG Hector Tomahawk PHEV powertrain: All you need to know
Gets an electric motor powered by a 20.5kWh battery and a 1.5-litre petrol engine
The Hector Tomahawk PHEV combines a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with a 20.5kWh battery and an electric motor. The petrol engine uses the Atkinson cycle and produces 102hp and 125Nm, while the permanent-magnet synchronous motor develops 201hp and 237Nm. The system sends a combined 198hp and 230Nm to the front wheels.
The petrol engine is paired with a Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT) with an e-clutch, while the battery uses lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry. Unlike a conventional hybrid, the Hector Tomahawk PHEV’s battery can be charged externally, allowing it to operate as an EV for more than 115km, according to MG, before the petrol engine kicks in.
How is the Hector Tomahawk PHEV different from a strong-hybrid powertrain?
Honda, Toyota and Maruti Suzuki offer strong-hybrid powertrains in models such as the City Hybrid, Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Innova Hycross, Grand Vitara, Victoris and Invicto. These systems also use an electric motor and battery, but their battery packs are charged through regenerative braking and the combustion engine rather than an external power source. They can drive the wheels on electric power for short periods but do not offer the extended electric driving capability of a plug-in hybrid.
The Hector Tomahawk PHEV’s 20.5kWh battery can be charged from the grid, giving it a greater electric driving capability. It supports 25kW DC charging, which MG claims takes 35 minutes for a 30-80 percent charge. A 3.3kW AC charger is said to take 7.5 hours for a 10-100 percent charge.
MG claims a 43.2 percent thermal efficiency for the petrol engine and around 50kpl combined fuel efficiency. The company pegs the combined range with a fully charged battery and the 52-litre fuel tank brimmed at over 1,100km.
MG offers it with four primary drive modes
The MG Hector Tomahawk PHEV can operate in four primary drive modes: EV, Series Hybrid, Parallel Hybrid and Engine Direct. Each mode uses the petrol engine, electric motor and battery differently. Here is how each one works.
EV mode: The battery alone powers the electric motor, which drives the wheels. The petrol engine remains switched off, making this the mode used for electric-only driving.
Series Hybrid mode: The petrol engine runs as a generator to produce electricity. It recharges the battery pack, which powers the electric motor driving the front wheels. The engine therefore does not directly power the wheels in this mode.
Parallel Hybrid mode: Both the petrol engine and electric motor drive the wheels. This allows the powertrain to combine the engine’s output with electric assistance when higher performance is required.
Engine Direct drive mode: The petrol engine drives the wheels directly through the hybrid transmission, reducing energy conversion losses associated with generating electricity and then using the motor to drive the wheels. This mode is primarily suited for high-speed cruising.
However, MG is offering no way to change these drive modes manually. The automaker claims the system shuffles between the modes in just 0.1 seconds, depending on the Hector Tomahawk PHEV’s state of charge, speed, throttle input and road conditions.

Both the Exclusive and Essence trims get the same powertrain, but certain features differ. Interestingly, the Hector Tomahawk PHEV is being offered with a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) scheme, just like the manufacturer’s EVs. This scheme reduces the upfront cost by a significant Rs 3.91 lakh.
As mentioned earlier, the MG Hector Tomahawk PHEV is the sole plug-in hybrid in India, offering a more fuel-efficient alternative to three-row SUVs such as the Tata Safari and Mahindra XUV 7XO.
The 2026 update for the Hyundai Ioniq 5 brought with it some cosmetic updates and a larger 84kWh battery. More significantly, its pricing and positioning have changed. While the previous model, with its 72.6kWh battery, was priced at Rs 45 lakh and was considered the value king of its segment, that claim is harder to justify for the new model, which now costs Rs 55.7 lakh.
Hyundai says the larger battery helps the 2026 Ioniq 5 deliver an ARAI-certified range of 690km. We put that claim to the test to determine its real-world efficiency.

The 2026 Hyundai Ioniq 5 is powered by a rear-mounted PMSM motor producing 229hp and 350Nm. Paired with a larger 84kWh lithium-ion battery pack using Nickel Manganese Cobalt (NMC) cell chemistry, it now boasts a claimed ARAI range of 690km, up from 631km in the previous 72.6kWh version. The Ioniq 5 offers four drive modes — Eco, Normal, Sport and Snow. For our tests, we used Eco mode, with regenerative braking set to Level 2 in the city and Level 1 on the highway.
In city conditions, the Ioniq 5 returned an efficiency of 6.22km/kWh, translating to an estimated range of around 523km. On the highway, efficiency dropped slightly to 5.71km/kWh, resulting in an extrapolated range of 479km. With an overall efficiency of 5.96km/kWh, the Ioniq 5 can realistically deliver about 501km on a full charge.
Hyundai claims the Ioniq 5 can support DC fast-charging speeds of up to 350kW. We charged it using a 150kW DC fast charger and recorded a peak charging rate of 149kW. Impressively, the charging speed remained close to its peak from 30 percent to 70 percent state of charge, before tapering off rapidly. In terms of charging times, the Ioniq 5 took 22 minutes to charge from 20 to 80 percent, and a further 32 minutes to reach 100 percent.
Autocar India’s range testing
Before our real-world range tests, the battery of our test car was fully charged, and we maintained tyre pressures in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations. The car was driven on a weekday in Navi Mumbai city and on the adjoining state highway in a fixed loop, and we maintained the set average speeds. At the end of each cycle, we calculated the range based on the percentage charge consumed.
Throughout our tests, the climate control was set to 22deg C in a full-auto setting, and other electricals, such as the audio system, indicators and ventilated front seats, were used when required, just as a regular user would. We take pride in our testing data, which isn’t merely consistent but also gives users an accurate indication of what they can expect in the real world.
Suzuki first showed the e-Access back in January 2025, but it was actually launched only a year later, in January 2026. While the e-Access has definitely lost the first mover advantage in the burgeoning EV market, has it at least come prepared?
e-Access Design and Features – 6/10
Unusual design won’t be to everyone’s tastes, features aren’t ground-breaking.
The e-Access is a ground-up new product, which has very little shared with its massively popular petrol-powered namesake. Its design is a clean-sheet one, and most people found it quite polarising. The swooping, double ‘duck-bill’ front end, mated to a contrasting, boxy rear section, doesn’t really gel well cohesively. Like all Suzuki two-wheelers, the e-Access feels solidly built, and the quality is quite decent too.
Decent is also a good way to describe its feature set, which includes the same bright and logically laid-out 4.2-inch TFT display as the 125cc Access and Burgman Street. In terms of riding modes, there are 3 in total – Eco, Ride B and Ride A – but on the move, you can only switch between Eco and either of the Ride modes. Both Ride A and Ride B give you full power, and the only difference is in the levels of regenerative braking. A has stronger regen, while in B, it is more gentle. To toggle between A and B, you have to be at a standstill, and this is a needless hoop to jump through.
Keyless ignition convenient to have, and very few e-scooters offer it today.
The feature set also includes a very convenient keyless ignition system, a spacious, open cubby on the front apron with a USB-A charger and an oddly-shaped, very small 17-litre underseat boot. In an age where most rivals routinely offer 30-35 litres of boot space, the e-Access falls woefully short, and in fact, even the latest-gen ICE Access gives you more.

It comes with a reasonably sized 600W charger, which took 6 hours flat to top up a flat battery to full. Suzuki also provides a well-thought-out bag in which you can store the charger, which is another neat touch. However, if you don’t pack the charger’s cables just right and place the bag inside the boot, it won’t close. Moreover, once the charger is in the boot, there’s very little free space available. This is a consequence of Suzuki positioning the batteries under the seat, which also has some ramifications on the scooter’s handling, but more on that later.
One silver lining is that the e-Access’ seat stays in the position you leave it in once you open it, courtesy of a small spring-loaded mechanism at the hinge, which is quite a neat touch.

e-Access Performance and Range – 6/10
Range and performance are just about adequate.
Every EV has shortcomings, but the important question is, can they be overlooked in the interest of the savings it brings via lower running costs? Unlike most mainstream manufacturers, which use NMC (Nickel Manganese Cobalt) batteries, Suzuki has chosen LFP (Lithium Ferrous Phosphate) chemistry for the e-Access. LFP cells typically have a longer life and lower risk of thermal runaway incidents, but the trade-off is lower energy density, and ergo, lower range.
Neutral ergonomics and well-judged suspension help keep you comfortable.
With a 3.072kWh LFP battery pack and a claimed 95km IDC range, range was never going to be the e-Access’ USP. In our tests, using Ride A mode (maximum power, maximum regenerative braking), we managed to cover a little over 88km on a single charge. This is a decent number in isolation, but quite a bit lower compared to rivals with similarly sized batteries, which can cover upwards of 100km.
One positive is that, once the range indicator had calibrated to our riding style, its predictions proved to be accurate, and the number shown on screen could be relied upon as the actual distance you’d go. Using Eco mode will obviously increase range on a single charge, but performance will be much gentler. What is nice is that even in Eco, the e-Access can maintain pace with big-city traffic as well as climb flyovers.
Motor delivers power in a predictable, unhurried manner, but the powertrain is quite noisy.
While the performance never feels inadequate, it is definitely a letdown on a machine bearing the ‘Access’ badge. In our tests, the e-Access took nearly 12 seconds to complete the 0-60kph sprint, which not only makes it slower than most other well-known e-scooters, but also much slower than the Access 125 that takes 7.68s for the same test. In fact, its performance, even in the most powerful Ride A mode, is so mellow that even the gentle Honda Activa 110 would leave it in the dust in a traffic-light grand prix. Another bug bear we have with the e-Access’ powertrain is that the powertrain is on the noisier side among all the reputed EVs on sale today.
e-Access Ride and Handling – 7/10
It’s light, easy and intuitive to ride, but over-eager handling is a mismatch.
To sit on, the e-Access feels pleasantly ‘normal’, and while this is certainly a compact machine, taller riders will be reasonably accommodated. However, while its low 765mm perch will be welcoming for shorter folks, riders over 6 feet will find it a bit too low. With a flat seat, spacious floorboard and well-tuned suspension, the e-Access is quite a comfortable machine and will isolate you to a great degree from all but the worst of bumps on our roads.
Suspension is well set up and shields you from bumps, but is more taut than floaty.
Like the new Burgman, its suspension is not overtly soft and feels quite taut, which isn’t necessarily a deal breaker, but something to watch out for. Braking power is quite good, although the lack of ABS and a sharp bite mean you have to be mindful when slowing down.
Brakes work well, but are quite sharp and bitey. Lack of ABS is a downer at this price.
At 122kg, it is fairly light, and slicing through traffic is a breeze. In fact, the scooter displays a tendency to lean over onto its side quicker than you’d expect, which is partly down to its smaller 12-in wheels and thinner tyres. It is also another consequence of Suzuki mounting the battery pack vertically under the seat. As a result of the centre of gravity being fairly high, the e-Access almost ‘falls’ into a corner, and this behaviour won’t be to everyone’s liking.
e-Access Price and Verdict – 6/10
All said and done, it’s not the average features, tiny storage area, mellow performance or lacklustre range which will dissuade you from buying it. These are all things that buyers could overlook in exchange for the quality assurance that comes with the Suzuki Access name. However, the deal breaker here is the super-steep Rs 1.92 lakh asking price, which is very difficult to justify when similarly specced, proven options from reputed Indian brands like TVS, Bajaj, Vida (Hero) and Ather cost up to Rs 60,000 less.
Gets some things right, but it’s far too expensive.
The e-Access gets some things right, like good comfort, and has typical Japanese strengths, like the promise of reliability, longevity and good quality. However, today’s market values a good price point without compromising on range, storage and quick charging times. For the e-Access to follow in the successful footsteps of its ICE namesake, simply leveraging an established name and charging an unreasonably stiff premium for it is unlikely to pay off.
The government has ruled out blending ethanol with diesel, as it sharply lowers the fuel’s flash point (the temperature at which its vapours can ignite) and fails to meet the required safety standards. Public-sector oil marketing companies (OMCs) tested ethanol-diesel blends at their research and development centres, in association with accredited laboratories and automobile manufacturers, Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Suresh Gopi said.
This comes after the government seeks to blend ethanol with other fuels beyond petrol. Currently, E20 and E85 fuels, which contain 20 percent and 85 percent ethanol respectively, are available in the country.
Issues in ethanol-diesel blending
Speaking of flash points, ethanol has a flash point of just 12 to 13deg C, compared with the minimum 35deg C requirement for diesel. This puts the two fuels in different petroleum safety classes, making both their storage and transportation difficult. Even with proprietary binders, OEMs have generally been reluctant to go beyond a 5 percent ethanol blend before combustion issues emerged.
For years, blending ethanol with diesel has been a challenge as the chemistry refuses to cooperate. Ethanol is a two-carbon alcohol with a polar structure, meaning it doesn’t like to mix with the oily consistency of diesel. As a result, ethanol and diesel can separate when stored together unless chemical binders are used. These binders, however, can be expensive.
Bengaluru-based electric mobility startup E3 Electric.AI has launched its first electric scooter, the Trion, at an introductory price of Rs 1 lakh (ex-showroom, Bengaluru). The new electric scooter is available in three variants – C1, C1x and C2 – and the company is positioning AI-based predictive features and a modular platform as its key differentiators.

The entry-level Trion C1 uses a removable 2.3kWh LFP battery, while the C1x and C2 get larger, fixed 3kWh LFP units. All three variants use a PMSM hub motor, although E3 has yet to disclose detailed motor output figures.
E3 claims an IDC range of 165km for the C1x. The range figure for the C1 hasn’t been revealed yet. Meanwhile, the range-topping C2 has a claimed top speed of 82kph and can accelerate from 0-40kph in 6 seconds. The C1 and C1x have Eco and Power riding modes, while the C2 adds a Sport mode.
The Trion rides on 14-inch wheels, which are larger than those on most electric scooters currently on sale in India. E3 also says the scooter offers up to 52 litres of combined storage across its underseat compartment, floorboard and glovebox. However, just the underseat storage hasn’t been disclosed.

E3 describes the Trion as India’s first AI-powered intelligent electric scooter. Central to this is what the company calls the E3 CommandCenter, which uses vehicle and cloud data to monitor the scooter and provide predictive diagnostics and service alerts.
The scooter gets a 5-inch LCD display and connected functionality through the company’s TripSense system, which essentially uses the Rider’s smartphone as a secondary display to provide additional information. Features include navigation, a trip planner with charger locations, remote battery monitoring, vehicle controls, geofencing, SOS assistance and a dashcam. E3 also claims that its AI HealthScan feature can perform vehicle diagnostics in 10 seconds.
The battery system incorporates what E3 calls an AI Digital Twin, which is claimed to provide real-time diagnostics and predictive information about the battery. Both battery options use LFP chemistry.
Other equipment includes dual-projector LED headlights, LED tail-lights and IP67-rated weather protection. The Trion is based on E3’s Triaxisframe modular architecture, which has been designed to accommodate different battery configurations and future derivatives.

The Trion is available in six colours: Solar Red, Misty Green, Graphite Grey, Nova Blue, Teal Blue and Luna White. Accessories include a backrest, helmet, phone holder and pillion footrest.
The E3 Trion C1 has been introduced at Rs 99,999, while the C1x costs Rs 1.10 lakh and the range-topping C2 is priced at Rs 1.20 lakh. All prices are introductory and ex-showroom, Bengaluru.
Pre-bookings have opened in Bengaluru, and E3 says other markets will follow. The company is also offering an extended warranty of up to eight years or 1 lakh kilometres.
India’s electric two-wheeler segment crossed the 2 lakh monthly sales mark for the first time, with retail figures of 2,04,266 units in July 2026 – beating the previous best of 1,99,411 units set in March this year. Cumulative sales for the first seven months of 2026 now stand at 11.7 lakh units, up 56 percent year-on-year, while the first four months of FY27 have delivered 7,29,573 units – a 73 percent jump over the same period last year.

TVS Motor Company delivered a record 55,477 electric scooters in July – a 135 percent year-on-year increase and the brand’s highest-ever monthly figure, surpassing the previous best of 51,632 units in March. The result gives TVS a 27 percent market share, up from 22 percent a year ago. Cumulative FY27 sales of 1,86,034 units are already 52 percent of its full-year FY26 tally, putting it on course to cross 5.5 lakh annual sales for the first time. The iQube remains TVS’s highest-selling model, with the Orbiter seeing growing demand alongside it.
Bajaj Auto: 45,592 units
Bajaj Auto sold 45,592 Chetak scooters in July, marking a 122 percent year-on-year increase, and giving it a 22 percent market share, up from 19 percent a year ago. This was Bajaj’s second-highest monthly figure after March’s 47,751 units. Cumulative FY27 sales of 1,63,236 units are 54 percent of its full-year FY26 total. Bajaj Auto’s Joint MD Rakesh Sharma noted that the newly launched Chetak 2501 now accounts for approximately 12 percent of the Chetak portfolio.
Ather Energy: 30,323 units
Ather Energy delivered 30,323 units in July, up 70 percent year-on-year, consolidating its position as the third-largest electric two-wheeler maker in India. Cumulative FY27 sales of 1,18,983 units are already 47 percent of its FY26 total.
In July, Ather also updated the battery chemistry of the 450 and Rizta ranges, with the Rizta now available in both LFP and NMC configurations. The brand will launch its first EL platform-based scooter – expected to be priced between Rs 1 lakh and Rs 1.25 lakh – at Ather Community Day on August 29.
Vida: 22,887 units
Vida posted its best-ever monthly sales of 22,887 units in July – a 111 percent year-on-year increase – surpassing its previous highs of 22,201 units in March and 21,893 units in June. Cumulative FY27 sales of 79,940 units are already 53 percent of its full-year FY26 total. The brand expanded its lineup in July with the VX2 Plus 4.4kWh at Rs 1.43 lakh and the new VX2 Go FB – a fixed-battery variant with a 3.1kWh pack priced at Rs 1.13 lakh.
Ola Electric: 14,105 units
Ola Electric was the only top-10 OEM to register a year-on-year decline in July, selling 14,105 units – down 24 percent from 18,449 units in July 2025. After three months of sequential growth through April, May and June, July also saw a 13 percent month-on-month drop. Ola’s market share has fallen sharply to 7 percent from 17 percent a year ago, when it ranked third overall.
Other notable performers
Greaves Electric Mobility delivered 10,125 units – up 137 percent year-on-year. River Mobility hit its highest-ever monthly sales with 5,951 units of the Indie, up 254 percent year-on-year, following the rollout of its 50,000th unit from its Hoskote plant. Bgauss Auto sold 5,518 units, up 213 percent year-on-year. Simple Energy sold 1,648 units, with the brand’s upcoming Simple Arrive family scooter set to launch on September 2. Lectrix Vehicles rounded out the top 10 with 1,397 units.
The top 10 OEMs combined accounted for 94 percent of all electric two-wheeler sales in July, with the remaining 6 percent approximately 180 other manufacturers.

ईशान, जाह्नवी के करीब आने और उसका हाथ थामकर साथ चलने के लिए आगे बढ़ते हैं। हालांकि, असल बात यह है कि यह वीडियो एक एडवरटाइज़मेंट कैंपेन के लिए है। इस वीडियो ने फैंस की पुरानी यादें ताज़ा कर दी हैं, क्योंकि जाह्नवी और ईशान ने अपनी डेब्यू फ़िल्म ‘धड़क’ में प्रेमी-प्रेमिका का किरदार निभाया था। शशांक खेतान के निर्देशन और करण जौहर के धर्मा प्रोडक्शन्स के प्रोडक्शन में बनी ‘धड़क’, नागराज मंजुले की मशहूर मराठी फ़िल्म ‘सैराट’ का हिंदी अडैप्टेशन थी।
इस फ़िल्म में जातिवाद और ऑनर किलिंग जैसे मुद्दों को दिखाया गया और इसने बॉक्स ऑफ़िस पर अच्छा प्रदर्शन किया। कई लोगों का मानना था कि फ़िल्म के बाद ईशान और जाह्नवी के बीच रोमांटिक रिश्ते भी थे। हालांकि, यह सिर्फ़ एक अंदाज़ा था, जिसकी कोई पुष्टि नहीं हुई। दोनों एक्टर्स ने ‘होमबाउंड’ में फिर से साथ काम किया और फ़िल्म के रिलीज़ होने से पहले, ईशान ने जाह्नवी के साथ दोबारा काम करने के अपने अनुभव के बारे में बात की।
‘ज़ूम’ के साथ एक इंटरव्यू में एक्टर ने कहा, “‘धड़क’ के सेट पर, जाह्नवी और मैं एक-दूसरे का सहारा बन सकते थे।” उन्होंने बताया, “मेरा किरदार बहुत सारे उतार-चढ़ाव से गुज़र रहा है। वह उसके लिए एक मज़बूत आदमी बनने की कोशिश कर रहा है, लेकिन ऐसा कर नहीं पा रहा है। वह अपनी ही परेशानियों से जूझ रहा है। उसे उसके परिवार से दूर कर दिया गया है। आप उसमें दरारें और उसकी कमज़ोरी देख सकते हैं। वह साथ देने की कोशिश कर रहा है, लेकिन असल में वह अपनी ही अंदरूनी मुश्किलों से लड़ रहा है।”
‘धड़क’ में जाह्नवी और ईशान की केमिस्ट्री को काफ़ी पसंद किया गया और इस जोड़ी को उस साल की सबसे चर्चित नई ऑन-स्क्रीन जोड़ियों में से एक माना गया। उनके नए कैंपेन वीडियो को देखकर फ़ैन्स दोनों एक्टर्स से और भी प्रोजेक्ट्स में साथ काम करने की मांग कर रहे हैं।
