Hyundai Venue N Line vs Mahindra XUV 3XO: Turbo-petrol auto performance compared

Hyundai Venue N Line vs Mahindra XUV 3XO: Turbo-petrol auto performance compared
Hyundai Venue N Line vs Mahindra XUV 3XO turbo-petrol automatic performance comparison

Hyundai offers the Venue N Line with a turbocharged direct-injection petrol engine and a dual-clutch transmission (DCT). And while there are two turbo-petrol engines available with the Mahindra XUV 3XO, it’s the one with direct injection that we’ll be looking at. Regardless, the type of automatic transmission on offer remains the same Aisin-sourced torque converter. The question now is, which SUV offers superior performance out in the real world?

Both engines here are direct-injection three-cylinder units. However, the XUV 3XO’s mill is larger by 199cc and delivers an additional 11hp and 58Nm. The Mahindra also achieves its peak power output lower down the rev range, though its 153kg heavier kerb weight means that its power-to-weight ratio is lower than that of the Venue N Line. Where the XUV 3XO fares better is in terms of its torque-to-weight ratio, with its higher torque figure making a marked difference.

The punchier engine of the XUV 3XO is one reason behind its quicker times off the line. The other is its torque-converter automatic gearbox, which allows the driver to mash the throttle pedal while standing on the brakes. It’s also smoother around town at slower speeds, especially in bumper-to-bumper traffic conditions. The Venue N Line’s dual-clutch transmission is reasonably quick to shift as speeds rise, but it can feel jerky at crawling speeds or while downshifting.

The Venue N Line’s DCT also doesn’t allow aggressive launches, which, along with its engine’s lower output, dulls outright performance. Both cars come with drive modes, but it’s the Venue N Line that features multiple traction modes and steering-mounted shifters to manually change the gears. The latter feels more intuitive and sporty when compared to the gear-lever-controlled shift function of the XUV 3XO.

Between 20-80kph, the Venue N Line’s sharper throttle response means that it closes this 60kph gap 0.17 seconds quicker than the XUV 3XO. However, the additional grunt offered by the Mahindra’s engine allows it to accelerate harder at higher speeds. This is evident in its 40-100kph rolling acceleration time of 8.11 seconds – that’s 0.24 seconds faster than the Venue N Line.

The Hyundai Venue N Line is yet to be put through the Autocar braking test. However, what we can confirm is that it had no trouble dropping its anchors. Where the heavier XUV 3XO really stood out is in the manner it shed speed upon slamming the brakes, remaining calmer than the Venue N Line. Both models feature disc brakes all around and similar tyre sizes.

At the top end, it’s the Venue N Line that’s dearer by Rs 46,000. For those who want to satiate their performance appetite, the Mahindra XUV 3XO will be the more rewarding pick of the two.

Autocar India’s testing standards

Before we conduct our performance tests, we check and maintain tyre pressures based on the manufacturer’s recommendation and ensure the car has a full tank of fuel. The car is then tested in a controlled environment with two people on board, and the data is collected via highly accurate GPS-based timing equipment.

3 reasons to buy the Jeep Meridian and 2 reasons not to

3 reasons to buy the Jeep Meridian and 2 reasons not to
Jeep Meridian front quarter tracking

If you’re in the market for an executive three-row SUV, the Jeep Meridian comes across as a competent offering. Launched in 2022, the Meridian uses the same underpinnings as the Compass, but gets unique body panels and a longer wheelbase to accommodate an extra row of seats. Over the years, Jeep has ensured it keeps the Meridian up to speed with the competition through variant rejigs, feature additions, and special edition versions. If the Meridian is on your radar, we present reasons why it’s worth buying, along with reasons to look elsewhere.

Reasons to buy the Jeep Meridian

Outstanding ride and handling balance

Thanks to an independent suspension setup with Frequency Selective Damping (FSD) and Hydraulic Rebound Stoppers (HRS), the Meridian takes rough road surfaces in its stride. Ride quality on the Meridian is phenomenal, as it remains remarkably stable on any road surface it travels on. On the other hand, minimal body roll and accurate steering with good feedback help the Meridian shine when it comes to handling.

Impeccable highway manners

The Meridian’s 170hp/350Nm turbo-diesel mill delivers power linearly and is quite torquey. Combined with its supple ride quality from its beefy suspension and tall gearing from its 9-speed automatic gearbox, the Meridian makes for a brilliant highway car.

Excellent off-road capability

The Meridian’s outstanding driving dynamics aren’t just limited to the tarmac; it handles off-road equally well. Unlike its rivals that offer an AWD drive layout, the Meridian stands out with a proper 4×4 layout. Being a Jeep SUV, the off-road capabilities of the Meridian are exceptional, and it offers multiple off-road modes along with a low-range transfer case. We’ve extensively tested its off-road ability and came away impressed. Though owners may not use the Meridian’s 4×4 system often, it’s nice to know that its capabilities have your back if you do go off-road.

Reasons not to buy the Jeep Meridian

Lack of engine options

Powering the Meridian is the same 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine that also does duty in the smaller Compass SUV. There’s no petrol engine on offer, which could likely deter a section of buyers who have moved on from diesels. Rivals like the Kia Sorento offer a turbo-petrol strong-hybrid engine in addition to a diesel.

Cramped third-row seat

Though the Meridian’s first and second rows offer a comfortable seating experience, the same can’t be said for its third row. Accessing the third row is easy thanks to the tumble function of the second-row seats, but the space on offer is disappointing compared to other 7-seat SUVs. The seat is placed low on the floor, leading to a ‘knees-up’ seating experience. Additionally, because lower variants lack a sliding function for the second-row seats, foot space also takes a hit. Overall, the third row of the Meridian is best reserved for kids or kept folded for more boot space.

Vande Bharat Patna:

Who is Bushra Bano:

Who is Bushra Bano:

Long-standing scooter market leader Honda, who was outsold by TVS for the first time in July 2026, has bounced back into the lead in August. Honda dispatched 2.85 lakh units to showrooms across the country, posting 6 percent sales growth compared to August 2025. However, Honda’s market share has gone down by 6 percent compared to last year. The top 10 scooter manufacturers delivered a record 8.55 lakh units to their showrooms in August 2026, up by 24 percent compared to August 2025. This beats the previous best in October 2025 (8.24 lakh units), the only other time monthly scooter sales crossed 8 lakh.

That’s not the only news from August. At 60.7 lakh units, cumulative scooter sales for the first eight months of 2026 have registered a handsome 31 percent YoY growth (January-August 2025: 46.4 lakh units). TVS dispatched 2.56 lakh scooters last month, up by 24 percent compared to August 2025. This gives the Hosur-based manufacturer a 30 percent market share, unchanged from last year. TVS’ monthly sales continue to benefit from its two EVs – iQube and Orbiter – which added 57,523 units, up by 135 percent from last year.

Ranked third is Suzuki with 1.01 lakh scooters, up by 11 percent, and a 12 percent market share; the Access 125 remains its best-selling product. Suzuki sold 668 units of the eAccess in August 2026, its only EV at the moment.

Hero dispatched 72,150 scooters last month, up 49 percent from last year, giving it an 8 percent market share, up by one percent compared to August 2025. Like TVS, Hero is also benefiting from the sustained demand for its Vida EVs, which sold 25,558 units, up by 108 percent.

Bajaj, which produces the electric Chetak and Yulu models, sold 53,748 e-2Ws in August, up 279 percent YoY; the high growth is due to the company’s production and sales finally recovering from the supply chain issues it faced last year.

Yamaha registered 23 percent growth for a 4 percent market share. It was the last Japanese manufacturer to start selling EVs and dispatched 475 EC-06 e-scooter last month.

Ather, which launched its mass-market family scooter Konarc on August 29, sold 29,694 units of the Rizta and 450 models in August, up 30 percent YoY, for a 3 percent overall scooter market share.

Greaves Electric Mobility – manufacturer of Ampere Electric scooters – is the newest SIAM member. The company has reported dispatches of 12,439 units last month, up 114 percent from August 2025. River, which currently only sells the Indie, dispatched a record 6,567 units in August, up 195 percent from last year and by 9 percent compared to July 2026. Piaggio, which markets the Aprilia and Vespa brands, wraps up the Top 10 scooter manufacturers list with wholesales of 3,602 units, up 38 percent compared to August 2025.

The stellar performance of the scooter segment last month ensured that overall 2W sales hit a new high for the month of August with 20 lakh units. With the festive season ahead, we can expect to see further increases in sales by the end of the year.

Bovensiepen Spider revealed as BMW Z4-based roadster

Bovensiepen Spider revealed as BMW Z4-based roadster
Bovensiepen Spider

Bovensiepen has revealed the Spider, a limited-production two-seat roadster based on the BMW Z4 M40i. It is the third model from the Buchloe-based company and follows the Zagato and 05 GT, with production capped at 99 hand-built examples. The Spider gets bespoke exterior and interior changes, along with revisions to its suspension, cooling and exhaust systems. Orders are now open, with first deliveries scheduled for the end of the first quarter of 2027.

Bovensiepen Spider: Exterior

The Spider retains the Z4’s basic roadster proportions, with a long bonnet, rear-set cabin and short overhangs. Its exterior was developed with designer Frank Stephenson, who also worked on the Bovensiepen 05 GT. Changes include a gloss-black front splitter with twin tips, front-fender vents, side skirts, a rear diffuser and an integrated rear spoiler. It also gets 20-inch forged wheels.

The roadster measures 4,334mm long, 1,864mm wide and 1,304mm tall. It has a kerb weight of 1,585kg. Of the 99 Spider examples, 40 will be finished in Sapphire Black, 25 in Sanremo Green, 20 in Skyscraper Grey, nine in Thundernight and five in Frozen Grey II.

Bovensiepen Spider: Interior

There are no major changes to the interior design compared with the BMW Z4, with the differences mainly focused on upholstery, trim and personalisation. The two-seat cabin gets Vernasca leather upholstery, Alcantara seat panels and a Lavalina leather steering wheel. A heated steering wheel, Comfort Access and a Harman Kardon surround-sound system are standard.

Optional interior upgrades include full-leather upholstery, a leather dashboard and Alcantara trim for the A-pillars, wind deflector and roll-bar cover. Bovensiepen’s in-house saddlery can also add personalised headrest embossing and embroidery. Each car gets a numbered production plaque, while boot capacity is 281 litres.

Bovensiepen Spider: Powertrain

The Spider is powered by a 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six B58 engine producing 435hp and 580Nm, making 95hp and 80Nm more than the BMW Z4 M40i, which produces 340hp and 500Nm. Bovensiepen has revised the intake and exhaust systems, with the former gaining an additional ram-air channel and the latter receiving changes to improve flow. Power is sent to the rear wheels through an eight-speed ZF automatic gearbox.

The Spider takes 4.2sec to accelerate from 0-100kph and has a top speed of 260kph. The optional Performance Package increases the top speed to 295kph and adds a milled aluminium rear differential cover with larger cooling fins and an underbody V-brace. It also brings revised dampers and longer rear auxiliary springs.

The Spider marks Bovensiepen’s return to the roadster format, following the Alpina Roadster S based on the BMW Z4 (E85). The new model is based on the BMW Z4 (G29) M40i and is positioned as a two-seat sports car with limited, hand-built production. Bovensiepen says the Spider is aimed at enthusiasts of lightweight sports cars and roadsters.

Who is Sanjukta Parashar: असम की चर्चित IPS अधिकारी संजुक्ता पराशर ने केंद्रीय रिजर्व पुलिस बल (CRPF) की सबसे खतरनाक जंगल युद्धक कमांडो यूनिट CoBRA (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action) की पहली महिला प्रमुख बनकर इतिहास रच दिया है।

2026 MotoGP: Marc Márquez wins San Marino GP and leads the championship

2026 MotoGP: Marc Márquez wins San Marino GP and leads the championship
A podium shot showing Marc Marquez celebrating his win with prosecco.

Calling the first half of the 2026 seasons unfavourable to Marc Márquez would be an understatement. However, the second half is proving to be a much better one for the Spanish rider; he just won the San Marino GP and became the championship leader for the first time. After Marco Bezzechi crashed out in the first lap, Marc’s path to winning the race was largely hurdle-free; except for three laps where he lost the lead to Jorge Martin, who finished the race in P5, and now ranks second in the championship.

  1. Marc Márquez battled Jorge Martin and brother Alex Márquez for the thrilling win
  2. Jorge Martin eventually ended up finishing fifth, hindered by a pre-existing arm condition
  3. Pedro Acosta continued to be the most successful KTM rider

Easy start, but wasn’t for long

At lights out, Marco Bezzechi, the rider ranking third in the championship, had a stronger start and led most of the first lap but quickly crashed out towards the end of it at turn 12, handing the lead to Marc. Jorge Martin too had an impressive race start from P5, overtaking Fabio Di Giannantonio and Fermin Aldegeur to get into P2 at the end of lap 1. Marc had a comfortable 0.9 second over Jorge Martin when the crash happened so there was no immediate battle for P1.

Jorge Martin and later Alex Márquez vied for P1

However, Jorge Martin, who entered the weekend as championship leader, decided to mount an attack quickly and overtook Marc Márquez a few laps later and held onto the lead for three laps. While initially appearing to settle for P2, or even P3 after Alex started closing the gap too, Marc reacted quickly, taking back the lead from Jorge and then started building up a gap; until Marc’s younger brother Alex Márquez decided to overtake Jorge Martin for the second position and started closing the gap to Marc Márquez as well. However, Marc sustained his half a second lead over his younger brother until the very end, and eventually won the race with a 0.657 second lead. This victory made him a seven-time winner at the Misano World Circuit, where the San Marino GP has been hosted since 2007.

Pedro Acosta continues to shine in the orange limelight

Pedro Acosta, who was behind Alex Márquez, also overtook Jorge Martin a few laps later; and Martin was yet again overtaken by Alex’s Gresini teammate Fermin Aledegeur, leaving him with fifth place in the end. Jorge Martin explained in the post-race interviews that he had an arm pump issue that restricted his performance; he added that he will decide his next steps after next weekend’s Austrian GP.

Pedro Acosta continued his impressive performance on KTM’s RC16 and delivered a consecutive podium, after coming in second at the Aragon GP. The nearest KTM rider to Acosta, to put his performance into context, was Tech3’s Enea Bastianini in eighth. Brad Binder, Acosta’s Factory KTM teammate, finished eleventh.

Other notable events from the premier race

Both the Factory Aprilia Racing and Gresini Racing teams sported special liveries for the weekend. Aprilia called its livery on the RS-GP “Perla Bianca” (white pearl). Gresini’s livery was a tribute to the late Marco Simoncelli and also to mark the team’s thirty years in the premier class of MotoGP.

Besides Marco Bezzechi, Jack Miller, Diogo Moreira, and after that Márquez’s factory Ducati teammate, Francesco (Pecco) Bagnaia also crashed out of the race in first, second, and fifth laps, respectively. Joan Mir and Alex Rins retired from the race for undisclosed reasons in laps five and sixteen, respectively. On lap 24, Johan Zarco also had a crash, leaving LCR Honda with a double DNF for the weekend. In the end 14 out of 22 riders finished all 27 laps, with Tech3’s Pol Espergaro (who continued as Maverick Viñales’ replacement) finishing last.

Marc leads the 2026 championship for the first time

With his performance over the weekend, taking all 37 available points, Marc Márquez leads the 2026 rider’s championship for the very first time. As the championship moves onto Austria for the next race, Marc Márquez and Jorge Martin both have exactly 274 points. In June, when he rejoined the grid at Mugello GP, Marc was trailing 102 points to the then championship leader, Marco Bezzechi. He has equalled the point difference in seven races, though, it remains to be seen how Jorge Martin and Marco Bezzechi take the fight to Marc Márquez in the remaining seven races. In addition to that, Ducati has also overtaken Aprilia in the constructor’s championship, now leading by two points. All in all, the 2026 season has turned out to be a lot more interesting than initially expected.

Moto2 and Moto3 were also eventful!

Things were just as much as interesting, if not more in the other two classes as well. In Moto3, Máximo Quiles, 18-year-old Spanish racer of the CFMoto Aspar team, continued his domination, winning today’s race with a nail-biting last corner overtake of David Almansa, who was leading the race until then; Quiles won the race with a 0.021 second lead, just over the width of the front tyre. Moto2 race had a chaotic start, after a mistake from rookie Ángel Piqueras took him and two of the front runners, Senna Agius and Daniel Holgado down and out of the race in the very first corner. Manuel González, who currently leads the championship, took the lead thereafter and held onto it till the end successfully. This marked Manu’s first race win since the Hungarian GP.

Production-spec Tesla Roadster global unveil on October 1
Tesla Roadster teased

The production-spec Tesla Roadster is set to be unveiled on October 1, 2026, with the American brand announcing the same via its official social media handle. Moreover, a subsequent teaser image released by Tesla reveals a few design details of the upcoming Roadster, with the company also making statements including “10.01” and “Go for launch”. This is to be the production-spec model of the Tesla Roadster, with the concept first being showcased to the public in November 2017.

  • Teaser shows full-width LED tail-lights and a rear wing.
  • Depicted with four nozzles at the back.

The teaser shows the rear silhouette of this electric sports car

The first teaser by Tesla shows a large rear wing, full-width LED tail-lights and what appear to be four horizontally arranged nozzles. These nozzles were originally set to be part of the so-called ‘SpaceX option package’ for the Tesla Roadster, with brand co-founder and CEO, Elon Musk, saying that they will be “rocket thrusters to improve acceleration, top speed, braking and cornering”. Owing to these design additions, the production-spec Tesla Roadster looks more dramatic than the concept which was showcased nearly a decade ago. It’s unclear what other design changes Tesla has made to the production-spec Roadster.

Tesla Roadster technical details

The Roadster concept originally claimed a maximum range of 620 miles

According to Tesla, the Roadster concept offered a maximum range of 620 miles (approximately 998km), a top speed in excess of 250mph (over 402kph) and a 0-60mph (0-97kph) time of 1.9 seconds. Responding to a comment on X, Elon Musk has previously stated that the SpaceX rocket thruster option package will allow the production-spec Roadster to accelerate from 0-60mph in just 1.1 seconds.

The American brand has repeatedly delayed the launch of the Roadster

Those interested in buying the Roadster could reserve one by paying GBP 38,000, as per Tesla. The Roadster is finally set to be unveiled at Waco, Texas, with Tesla having invited those who have reserved the car to attend the event. That said, this is not the first time Tesla is announcing a timeline for the launch of the Roadster. Back in November 2025, brand boss Elon Musk stated on social media that the Tesla Roadster will be launched in April 2026 – a timeline that wasn’t met.
