Tata Punch crosses 8 lakh sales milestone

The Tata Punch has crossed the 8 lakh domestic sales milestone, becoming the second SUV in Tata Motors’ current passenger vehicle line-up after the Nexon to do so. The figures include combined wholesales of the Punch petrol, CNG and Punch EV, as Tata Motors does not report separate dispatch numbers for its ICE and electric models. The milestone comes less than five months after the Punch crossed the 7 lakh sales mark in early February this year.

From its launch in October 2021 until the end of June 2026, Tata Motors dispatched 797,479 units of the Punch. The remaining 2,521 units needed to cross the 8 lakh mark were sold in the first few days of July.

Tata Punch sales momentum

The Punch recorded its highest-ever monthly wholesales of 21,006 units in June 2026 and was India’s best-selling SUV in the first quarter of FY2027, with 60,321 units dispatched. Monthly sales have exceeded the 20,000-unit mark three times since the model’s launch, with all three instances coming this year.

Between February and June 2026, the Punch added another 1 lakh sales, helped by monthly wholesales of 18,748 units in February, 20,977 in March, 19,107 in April, 20,208 in May and 21,006 in June.

Tata Punch facelift expands line-up

Tata Motors launched the updated Punch in January this year with exterior and interior changes, additional features and new powertrain options. The range now includes a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine, a CNG-AMT option and an updated Punch EV with revised battery options and a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) programme.

The Punch is currently offered with petrol, CNG and electric powertrains across 32 variants. Prices for the petrol range start at Rs 5.70 lakh, while the CNG version starts at Rs 6.80 lakh. The updated Punch EV is priced from Rs 9.69 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom).

The Punch crossed 1 lakh wholesales just 10 months after launch in October 2021, reached 4 lakh in June 2024, 5 lakh in January 2025, 6 lakh in July 2025 and 7 lakh in early February 2026. The latest run from 7 lakh to 8 lakh has taken less than five months, making it the quickest 1 lakh sales milestone for the model so far.

According to Tata Motors’ sales data, the Punch has become the fastest compact SUV to cross 8 lakh domestic wholesales. The Maruti Brezza took around 80 months to reach the milestone, followed by the Hyundai Venue at 85 months and the Tata Nexon at 89 months, while the Punch achieved it in a little over 57 months from launch.

This engine makes up for its lack of outright cubic capacity by being eager to rev all the way up to a redline of 6,000rpm. Not only is it peppy and responsive, but this three-pot unit has a linear power delivery – all the while remaining smooth and refined.

Then there’s the 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox, which is offered with the G and V trims of the Taisor. Like the turbo-petrol engine, this transmission is smooth in its operation too. It also responds promptly to the steering-mounted paddle shifters, and in manual mode, this gearbox does not upshift automatically, increasing driver engagement even more. All of this pays dividends, as we clocked the Taisor Turbo achieving the sprint from 0-100kph in 11.86 seconds. For reference, that’s slightly quicker than the 120hp Kia Sonet with the DCT. The 5-speed manual gearbox of the Taisor is also a pleasure to use, thanks to its light and tactile operation.

Firm suspension and light steering come together well in the Taisor

While the stiffly sprung suspension of the Taisor feels a bit busy at low speeds, things change as the speed climbs. The inherent stiffness inspires confidence as the car feels stable even at triple-digit speeds. At low speeds, the light steering of the Taisor makes lane changes and parking manoeuvres easy to execute. The small turning radius aids manoeuvrability further.

Sorted ergonomics and comfort

Easily accessible controls and comfy rear seats make settling in fuss-free

Along with the adjustable seat, tilt and telescopic adjustment for the steering makes getting into a comfortable driving position in the Taisor quite easy. All the controls fall to hand easily, and there’s also an adjustable centre armrest for the driver, that will come in handy over long drives, especially in the case of the automatic version.

The cabin feels spacious despite the relatively compact size of this car, while the rear seats are comfortable and offer good legroom as well. Adding to this comfort factor and overall safety at the back are features such as rear AC vents, USB Type-C ports, three headrests and three-pointed seatbelts. Also useful is the 360-degree camera system, which helps navigating tight parking spots less tense.

While the 360-degree camera is good to have, its low resolution impacts usability to an extent, especially in poor weather or in the dark. The Taisor doesn’t get load sensors for the rear seats, which means the belt reminder chime will go on for 90 seconds unless they are properly buckled. Other missing features here include a powered sunroof, ventilated seats, LED ambient lighting, powered front seats, leatherette upholstery, a rear centre armrest, ADAS and a larger infotainment screen, to name a few.

Sub-optimal insulation and plastic quality

These issues are not as prevalent in newer compact SUVs

There’s no dearth of hard plastics in the Taisor’s cabin, with much of the surfaces being covered in sub-optimal plastic trim. Sound insulation also leaves a lot to be desired, as road and engine noises seep into the cabin easily.

1. Kia Seltos

Price: Rs 10.99 lakh-21.82 lakh

The midsize SUV segment has a new all-rounder in the Seltos. It’s got a wide range of engines, including a 115hp, 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol, a 160hp, 1.5-litre turbo-petrol and a 116hp, 1.5-litre diesel; gearbox options are just as diverse. The Seltos also has the most premium and inviting interior. Not only is it refined, efficient and spacious, but it also has class-leading tech and UI/UX. The only downside is that there’s a hint of firmness in the suspension setup, but it’s not a dealbreaker. It is, however, quite expensive at the top end.

2. Hyundai Creta

Price: Rs 10.91 lakh-19.95 lakh

Despite its age, the Creta remains a competitive offering in the company of its newer rivals. It’s slightly smaller and less spacious than the Seltos because the latter has moved on to a new-generation platform, but it offers the same mix of powertrain options, a comfortable driving and riding experience and a feature-loaded cabin. Hyundai’s after-sales service experience is quite satisfactory, and there’s also the N Line version with a slightly sportier setup for the more enthusiastic buyer.

3. Maruti Victoris

Price: Rs 10.49 lakh-19.99 lakh

If running costs, reliability and ease of ownership are priorities, the Victoris (or the Grand Vitara and Hyryder) remains unmatched. Between the three, the Victoris is the newest and also packs some additional features. The trio has the segment’s only strong-hybrid powertrain with the 116hp, 1.5-litre strong-hybrid unit and also the option of AWD with the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. The Victoris rides and handles well, too, although performance isn’t particularly exciting, and rear-seat space isn’t as good as that of its rivals. There’s also the option of CNG should you want affordable running costs.

4. Tata Sierra

Price: Rs 11.49 lakh-21.29 lakh

The Sierra is the roomiest and most feature-loaded SUV in the midsize segment, uniquely even offering a third screen for the front passenger. Good ride and handling are also among its strengths. The 160hp, 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine is the pick of the range, as the 118hp, 1.5-litre diesel and 106hp, 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engines aren’t good on refinement and performance. It’s also on the more expensive side, and reliability and service experience are deterrents, too.

5. Renault Duster

Price: Rs 10.49 lakh-18.69 lakh

The Duster has a tough and rugged appeal, fantastic ride quality and a well-appointed interior. It offers good value for money, too, but is not as spacious as its rivals. Also, both its 100hp, 1.0-litre turbo-petrol and 163hp, 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engines suffer from turbo-lag, although performance is otherwise quite potent. A big miss is the option of an auto gearbox with the base petrol engine. Some may even miss a diesel engine and optional all-wheel-drive system offered with the original Duster.

किआ अपनी नई इलेक्ट्रिक एसयूवी Syros EV को जल्द भारतीय बाजार में लॉन्च कर सकती है। लॉन्च से पहले इस गाड़ी को कई बार टेस्टिंग के दौरान देखा गया है। मीडिया रिपोर्ट्स के मुताबिक, कुछ डीलरशिप ने इसकी अनऑफिशियल बुकिंग भी शुरू कर दी है। डिजाइन के मामले में ये पेट्रोल मॉडल से काफी मिलती-जुलती होगी, लेकिन इसमें बंद फ्रंट ग्रिल और नए डिजाइन के अलॉय व्हील्स देखने को मिल सकते हैं। इसके अलावा, कंपनी इसमें कई आधुनिक फीचर्स और बड़ा केबिन दे सकती है। वहीं अभी इसकी पूरी जानकारी सामने नहीं आई है। इसकी संभावित शुरुआती कीमत करीब 14 लाख रुपये मानी जा रही है।

किआ सोरेंटो

किआ जल्द ही अपनी फ्लैगशिप 7-सीटर एसयूवी सोरेंटो को भारत में लॉन्च कर सकती है। ये भारत में कंपनी की पहली हाइब्रिड एसयूवी होगी। कंपनी ने इसका टीजर भी जारी कर दिया है। उम्मीद है कि इसमें कई प्रीमियम फीचर्स मिलेंगे। साथ ही, भारतीय ग्राहकों के लिए इसमें स्थानीय जरूरतों के हिसाब से हाइब्रिड पेट्रोल पावरट्रेन दिया जा सकता है।

रॉयल एनफील्ड ने रफ क्राफ्ट्स के साथ मिलकर शॉटगन 650 x रफ क्राफ्ट्स का लिमिटेड एडिशन पेश किया है। ये स्पेशल बाइक कंपनी की कस्टम बाइक से प्रेरित है। भारत में इसकी सिर्फ 25 यूनिट ही बिक्री के लिए उपलब्ध होंगी। इसकी एक्स-शोरूम कीमत 5.75 लाख रुपये रखी गई है। इस लिमिटेड एडिशन की बुकिंग भारत में 30 जुलाई शाम 7 बजे (IST) से शुरू होगी।

2026 Maruti Brezza details leaked ahead of launch

Ahead of its launch on July 24, 2026, specifications and features of the 2026 Maruti Brezza have been leaked on X (previously Twitter) via user @adityalala2000. The leak mentions a new turbo-petrol engine, along with new features and exterior paint options for the 2026 Maruti Brezza. Meanwhile, bookings of the Maruti compact SUV have already commenced.

Uptuned Boosterjet engine, underbody CNG kit, and ventilated front seats to come on the 2026 Brezza

The updated Maruti Brezza is expected to get a 1.0-litre ‘Boosterjet’ turbo-petrol unit as the Fronx but in a higher state of tune. On the Brezza, it is likely to produce 110hp and 170Nm, which is 10hp and 26Nm more than the unit powering the Fronx. This engine would be paired to a manual transmission, likely a six-speed unit that was spied on a prototype model.

On the other hand, the 103hp, 139Nm 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine is expected to be retained along with its manual and automatic transmissions. A CNG kit paired to this engine could continue to be offered, but is expected to have the Victoris CNG-like underbody tank setup.

Additionally, the updated Brezza is likely to have new feature additions, including a larger 10.1-inch infotainment display with built-in apps and Alexa support, ventilated front seats, an air purifier, and 64-colour ambient lighting. New safety features are expected to include blind spot warning, rear cross traffic alert, front parking sensors, and a tyre pressure monitoring system. On the outside, the updated Brezza will likely arrive with an updated look for the bumpers. New monotone paint options, namely Vivacious Orange and Luster Beige, and new dual-tone options, with a black roof for the Arctic White and Luster Beige shades, are likely.

Maruti Suzuki responds to Raipur Consumer Court order

Maruti Suzuki has responded to the order issued by the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission of Raipur. In an official statement, the automaker contested the consumer court’s directions to provide a new, E20-compliant car to the complainant, i.e., Dr. Premraj Debta. Dr. Debta filed a complaint against Maruti Suzuki at Raipur’s consumer court over E20-related damages to his Grand Vitara.

Maruti challenges consumer court’s orders

Maruti Suzuki has now challenged the consumer court’s direction by stating that the Grand Vitara sold to Dr. Debta was E20 compatible. The automaker went on to say that the car was “fully equipped to handle E20 fuel and this was disclosed in the owner’s manual.”

Pushing back further, Maruti claimed that it has found evidence of contamination in the fuel collected from Dr. Debta’s Grand Vitara. “Several other facts have also not been reflected in the court’s order,” said Maruti Suzuki in its statement. The company said that it is now planning to escalate the matter in a higher court of law, while concluding that it “remains fully committed to quality, safety and customer satisfaction through robust engineering, processes and systems.”

Previously, a customer of a Toyota Innova Hycross found themselves in a similar situation when their car kept suffering frequent breakdowns due to E20 fuel. However, Vikram Gulati, Country Head & Executive Vice President at Toyota Kirloskar Motor, responded to this by saying that the culprit here was contaminated fuel, not E20. Meanwhile, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) stated that during its nation-wide fuel quality tests, the company found no instances of adulteration, contamination, or critical quality lapses.

Maruti E20 Raipur case recap

Just to recap, on July 14, 2026, the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission of Raipur ordered Maruti Suzuki to replace Dr. Debta’s Grand Vitara with a new, E20-compatible car. The doctor alleged that his car’s engine had stalled several times due to E20 petrol and that the issue was never permanently fixed by Maruti despite multiple visits to the service centre. Ultimately, the consumer court ordered the automaker to replace the complainant’s car with a brand-new one within 45 days, or pay monetary compensation.

Coal India: कंपनी को गुजरात के खावड़ा में 300 MW के सोलर पावर प्रोजेक्ट में से 200 MW सोलर पावर क्षमता के लिए गुजरात एनर्जी डेवलपमेंट एजेंसी (GEDA) से कमीशनिंग सर्टिफिकेट मिला है।

Maruti Suzuki India: कंपनी रायपुर के डिस्ट्रिक्ट कंज्यूमर डिस्प्यूट्स रिड्रेसल कमीशन के 14 जुलाई के आदेश को चुनौती देगी। कमीशन ने कंपनी को निर्देश दिया है कि वह एक ग्राहक की गाड़ी को नए E20-कम्पैटिबल मॉडल से बदले। ग्राहक ने E20 पेट्रोल के इस्तेमाल से जुड़ी समस्याओं की शिकायत की थी। कंपनी ने कहा कि इस मामले में शामिल गाड़ी पहले से ही E20-कम्पैटिबल थी और E20 फ्यूल पर चलने में पूरी तरह सक्षम थी, जैसा कि ओनर मैनुअल में बताया गया है। यह कार ग्राहक को जून 2024 में बेची गई थी, लेकिन इसे जनवरी 2023 में बनाया गया था।

मारुति सुजुकी का यह भी कहना है कि ग्राहक की गाड़ी से लिए गए फ्यूल में मिलावट के सबूत मिले थे और कई अन्य जरूरी बातें कमीशन के आदेश में शामिल नहीं की गईं।

E20 Row: देश की प्रमुख कार निर्माता कंपनी मारुति सुजुकी इंडिया ने कहा है कि वह रायपुर के डिस्ट्रिक्ट कंज्यूमर डिस्प्यूट्स रिड्रेसल कमीशन के 14 जुलाई के आदेश को चुनौती देगी। इस आदेश में कंपनी को एक ग्राहक की गाड़ी को नए E20-कम्पैटिबल मॉडल से बदलने का निर्देश दिया गया था। ग्राहक ने E20 पेट्रोल के इस्तेमाल से जुड़ी समस्याओं की शिकायत की थी। यह आदेश छत्तीसगढ़ के एक ‘ग्रैंड विटारा हाइब्रिड’ मालिक से जुड़ा है, जिन्होंने कंज्यूमर फोरम में शिकायत की थी कि E20 पेट्रोल भरवाने के बाद गाड़ी में तकनीकी खराबी आ गई थी।

खबरों के मुताबिक, कमीशन ने कंपनी को 45 दिनों के भीतर दूसरी गाड़ी देने या RTO और इंश्योरेंस के खर्च समेत 20.5 लाख रुपये का पूरा रिफंड देने का निर्देश दिया था। इस घटनाक्रम पर प्रतिक्रिया देते हुए मारुति सुजुकी ने कहा कि मामले में शामिल गाड़ी पहले से ही E20 कम्पैटिबल थी और ओनर मैनुअल में बताए अनुसार E20 फ्यूल पर चलने में पूरी तरह सक्षम थी। बताया गया है कि कार ग्राहक को जून 2024 में बेची गई थी। लेकिन इसे जनवरी 2023 में बनाया गया था।

फ्यूल में मिलावट के सबूत मिले?

मारुति सुजुकी ने आगे कहा कि ग्राहक की गाड़ी से लिए गए फ्यूल में मिलावट के सबूत मिले हैं । कमीशन के आदेश में कई अन्य महत्वपूर्ण तथ्यों को शामिल नहीं किया गया है। कंपनी ने एक बयान में कहा, “हमें रायपुर के डिस्ट्रिक्ट कंज्यूमर डिस्प्यूट्स रिड्रेसल कमीशन के एक आदेश के बारे में पता चला है, जिसमें मारुति सुजुकी को ग्राहक की गाड़ी को नई E20-कम्पैटिबल कार से बदलने का निर्देश दिया गया है।”

दिग्गज कार कंपनी ने आगे कहा, “इस मामले में शामिल कार E20-कम्पैटिबल थी और E20 फ्यूल के इस्तेमाल के लिए पूरी तरह तैयार थी, जैसा कि ओनर मैनुअल में बताया गया है। ग्राहक की गाड़ी से लिए गए फ्यूल में मिलावट के सबूत हैं। आदेश में कई अन्य महत्वपूर्ण तथ्यों को भी शामिल नहीं किया गया है।”

क्या है पूरा मामला?

यह आदेश छत्तीसगढ़ के एक ‘ग्रैंड विटारा हाइब्रिड’ मालिक से जुड़ा है। उन्होंने कंज्यूमर फोरम में शिकायत की थी कि E20 पेट्रोल भरवाने के बाद गाड़ी में तकनीकी खराबी आ गई थी। खबरों के मुताबिक, कमीशन ने कंपनी को 45 दिनों के भीतर दूसरी गाड़ी देने या RTO और इंश्योरेंस के खर्च समेत 20.5 लाख रुपये का पूरा रिफंड देने का निर्देश दिया था। मारुति सुजुकी ने कहा कि वह इस फैसले के खिलाफ कानूनी रास्ता अपनाएगी।

एथेनॉल ब्लेंडेड फ्यूल और गाड़ियों की कम्पैटिबिलिटी को लेकर चल रही चर्चाओं के बीच इस मामले ने ध्यान खींचा है। कार कंपनियों का कहना है कि E20-कम्पैटिबल सर्टिफाइड वाहन 20 प्रतिशत तक इथेनॉल वाले ईंधन पर सुरक्षित रूप से चलने के लिए डिजाइन किए गए हैं। बशर्ते कि सप्लाई किया गया ईंधन तय क्वालिटी स्टैंडर्ड्स के अनुरूप हो।

Consumer court directs Maruti Grand Vitara replacement over E20 fuel dispute

The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission of Raipur, Chhattisgarh, has directed Maruti Suzuki to replace the Grand Vitara belonging to Dr. Premraj Debta for E20-related damages, ETV Bharat reported. After verifying all the necessary documents and arguments put forth by Maruti and Dr. Debta, the consumer court ordered the automaker to provide the doctor with a new, E20-compatible car within 45 days. Otherwise, Maruti Suzuki will have to cover the full cost of the car, amounting to Rs 20.50 lakh. It has also been ordered to pay Rs 1 lakh for mental harassment and Rs 10,000 to cover litigation fees, as per ETV Bharat.

What to expect from the updated Maruti Brezza

Maruti Suzuki will debut the updated Brezza on July 24, 2026. This will be the first update to the second-generation Brezza, which was first introduced in 2022. Bookings for the compact SUV have already commenced for a token amount of Rs 11,000. Ahead of its debut, here’s everything you can expect from the updated Maruti Brezza.

What exterior changes could the updated Maruti Brezza get?

Maruti Suzuki had recently shared a teaser of the updated Brezza online, hinting at new design changes. These include a revised grille design with a thin red strip connecting the headlamps and a red trim for the lower side of the front bumper. Additionally, there’s cladding on the lower side of the doors, while the ‘Brezza’ branding on the tailgate is done in a new font.

A new design for the alloy wheels was partially spotted and is likely to have a 4-spoke design as seen on the prototypes. The front bumper is restyled, with the squarish fog lamps positioned slightly higher, a silver trim, and a silver faux skid plate. Meanwhile, the LED headlamps with L-shaped DRLs and slim LED tail lamps are retained.

What interior changes and feature additions are likely on the updated Maruti Brezza

Maruti is expected to keep the overall cabin layout similar to the current version, albeit with an updated colour scheme and trim materials. A glimpse of the cabin from the teaser showcased an HUD unit and a free-standing infotainment screen, which was also there on the current version. The latter could be upgraded from the current 9-inch display to a larger 10.-inch unit from the Victoris.

Additionally, a new comfort feature was spotted in the form of curved side bolstering for the rear headrests. Features like a powered driver’s seat, front-seat ventilation and ambient lighting are expected to make it to the equipment list. Level 2 ADAS could be part of the safety kit, along with front parking sensors, as the latter was spotted on testing mules.

What powertrains will the updated Maruti Brezza offer?

The Brezza is the only compact SUV in the segment that does not offer a turbo-petrol engine. This could change as the Fronx’s 1.0-litre Boosterjet turbo-petrol unit is likely to make it on the Brezza. A 6-speed manual gearbox is likely to be paired with this engine, as a prototype of the Brezza was spotted in February 2026 with this transmission. A CNG kit could be paired with this engine as well.

If powered by the 1.0-litre mill, the Brezza would be eligible for the lower 18 percent GST rate compared to the 28 percent GST rate for the current version’s 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine.

What is the expected price of the updated Maruti Brezza

The substantial introduction of upgrades over the current version is likely to make the Brezza slightly pricier. The outgoing Brezza has an ex-showroom price of Rs 8.26 lakh to Rs 12.86 lakh. It will continue to take on rivals like the Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Skoda Kylaq, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Kia Sonet and Syros.
